Position Summary
The Athletics Department at Saint John's University invites applications for a part-time (0.2 FTE), non-benefit eligible position of Assistant Swim and Dive Coach.
The Assistant Swim and Dive Coach (Temporary) works under the direction of the Head Coach to support the SJU Swim and Dive Team. This temporary position assists in creating a season plan, executing practices, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and helping manage the overall swim and dive program. The primary responsibility is working directly with athletes during daily practices and supporting the head coach during swim and dive meets.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated
Responsibilities
  • Assist with coaching and athlete development for the swim and dive program
  • Collaborate with the head coach to plan practices, teach technique, advance individual skills, and support strength and conditioning efforts.
  • Identify and assess prospective student-athletes and build relationships through the recruiting process established by the head coach.
  • Provide academic support and personal mentoring through individual and team meetings.
  • Support the head coach in developing a competitive schedule and coordinating logistics for team and recruiting travel.
  • Attend meets and assist with all responsibilities related to meet-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior experience coaching competitive collegiate swimming.
  • Strong understanding of swim technique and training methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, motivate, and support college-aged student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and policies.
  • Valid driver's license required; candidate must pass a driver's license check and complete a defensive driving course upon hire.
  • Ability to complete all required safety training at the time of hire.
Physical requirements:
  • The role requires mobility across campus facilities and competition venues.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including leading players through training sessions, demonstrating techniques and skills
  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, and transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs.
Travel requirements:
  • Local and national travel based on team performance/competition sites.
  • Travel for recruiting purposes, typically weekly during high school season, most often regionally.
