What is a temporary account executive?

A Temporary Account Executive is a professional hired for a limited period to manage client accounts, drive sales, and maintain relationships on behalf of a company. They typically perform the same duties as a regular Account Executive, such as identifying sales opportunities, presenting products or services, and ensuring client satisfaction, but their employment is based on short-term contracts or specific projects. This role is common in industries with seasonal demands or when covering for permanent staff on leave. Temporary Account Executives need to quickly adapt to company processes and client needs to be effective in their role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary account executive?

To thrive as a Temporary Account Executive, you need strong sales acumen, relationship-building abilities, and typically a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic sales analytics tools is commonly required. Outstanding communication, adaptability, and time management are essential soft skills for managing client expectations and achieving sales targets within a limited timeframe. These skills ensure effective client engagement and the ability to quickly deliver results in a fast-paced, short-term role.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary account executives, and how can they be managed effectively?

Temporary Account Executives often face the challenge of quickly adapting to new teams, clients, and company processes since their assignments are typically short-term. To manage this effectively, it's important to prioritize clear and proactive communication, familiarize yourself with client portfolios as soon as possible, and seek guidance from permanent team members. Additionally, staying organized and demonstrating flexibility can help you build trust and deliver results in a condensed timeframe. Embracing these strategies will help you succeed and potentially open doors for future opportunities.

  • Build strong relationships with decision-makers and serve as the primary point of contact for client stakeholders.
  • Conduct discovery conversations to understand client goals, marketing initiatives, budgets, timelines, and business challenges.
  • Develop tailored solutions and present strategic recommendations that align with client objectives.
  • Lead client presentations, proposal reviews, pricing discussions, negotiations, and contract closing.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and accurate forecasting through HubSpot CRM.

Client Relationship Management

  • Build trust and long-term partnerships by delivering exceptional client service and proactive communication.
  • Maintain regular client touchpoints to ensure satisfaction, retention, and continued growth opportunities.
  • Manage client expectations and ensure timely follow-up throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
  • Support new client onboarding and facilitate a smooth transition into project execution.
  • Assist with account escalations and support Accounts Receivable collection efforts when necessary.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the “quarterback” for sold projects by helping connect the dots internally and externally, ensuring alignment between clients, sales, design, estimating, project management, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Partner closely with Design throughout the sales process to develop compelling creative solutions and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with Account Management, Project Management, Estimating, and Operations teams to ensure accurate quoting, project execution, and successful fulfillment.
  • Coordinate internally to ensure alignment on scope, budgets, timelines, and client expectations.
  • Participate in strategy meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across departments.

Operational & CRM Responsibilities

  • Utilize HubSpot for business development activities, CRM management, pipeline tracking, forecasting, and sales reporting.
  • Use ExhibitForce to support operational workflows, project coordination, and internal communication.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sales activity, project updates, opportunities, and client communications.
  • Build and maintain sales forecasts and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Review pricing and margin strategy with Sales Leadership prior to proposal submission.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitive offerings, and emerging experiential marketing solutions.
  • Travel as required for client meetings, trade show support, installations/dismantles, show-site supervision, and key presentations.
  • Be present on-site for major projects and key client events to ensure successful execution, proactively address challenges, and professionally troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills by anticipating client and operational challenges and driving timely solutions that support successful project outcomes.

  • Qualifications
