Job Summary:

The Facilities Technician I is responsible for supporting the daily operations of Axis Community Health by maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for both staff and patients. Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the role assists with routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds, and equipment across all Axis sites. The technician will also troubleshoot and perform minor adjustments on HVAC systems. The role also encompasses carrying out minor repairs, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and supporting the initiatives of the Safety Committee. Additionally, the Facilities Technician I coordinates vendor activities, manages supply inventories, and provides project support as needed. The position is responsible for responding promptly to facility alarms and equipment failures, while ensuring preventative maintenance schedules are followed consistently.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience in facilities maintenance services.

  • Must work and communicate well individually and on a team, and must be able to work on multiple projects.

  • Must have reliable personal vehicle, valid California Driver’s License, clean DMV record and an active automobile insurance is required.

  • Working knowledge in plumbing, painting, with use of custodial hand and powered tools.

  • Detailed oriented with a mindset towards meeting Axis’ high standard for maintenance and facilities.

  • Basic knowledge of building systems, tools, and safety practices.

  • Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks as required.

  • Strong analytical, employee relations, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent writing, business communication, editing, and proofreading skills.

  • Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.

  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.

  • Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems.

  • Must be able to use office equipment (i.e. copier, fax, etc.).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Respond and complete assigned facilities service tickets efficiently, correctly, and safely within the assigned timeframe. Troubleshoot and repair with sense of urgency.

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility infrastructure, including but are not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical work, cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, polishing and dusting: floors, carpet, walls, windows, and doors, trash and recycling removal, cleaning restrooms, offices and other areas as required.

  • Perform minor repairs and other tasks as needed to maintain each building site to be a clean, safe and healthy environment for the staff and patients.

  • Oversee various supplies inventories.

  • Troubleshoot minor adjustments in the HVAC system.

  • Assist with shipping and receiving.

  • Conduct onboarding meetings for new hires to ensure proper set-up of their workstation.

  • Coordinate vendor activities and manage supply inventories.

  • Support safety committee with routine inspections, maintaining records and emergency response drills.

  • Perform the mail run to the assigned Axis sites which can include delivery and pick-up of medical equipment/supplies. within the specified timeframe.

  • Reports to the Facilities Manager any systems or problems requiring contractor repair.

  • Drive to other sites and locations as needed to perform job duties or support organizational operations.

  • Participate in staff meetings, attend other meeting and training events as assigned.

  • May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Additional Information:

This is a temporary position with an expected duration of one (1) month starting in June 1, 2026. Employment is expected to conclude at the end of the assignment unless extended based on organizational needs or by mutual agreement. However, this position is at-will, and the duration of employment may be modified or ended at any time, with or without notice, in accordance with applicable law.

Physical, Cognitive, and Environmental Working Conditions:

Work is normally performed in a typical clinic office work environment (and, in some cases, telecommuting sites). Physical: Occasionally required to carry/lift/push/pull/move up to 20lbs. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as typing, writing, reaching over the shoulder, reaching over the head, reaching outward, sitting, walking on various surfaces, standing, and bending. Occasional travel to other Axis health centers and other occasional travel will be required. 

Equipment: Frequently required to use repetitive motion of hands and feet to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier, and other office equipment for extended periods. 

Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and signage. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with staff etc. Must be able to speak clearly, understand normal communication, and be understood. Must be able to see clearly and have the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.

Cognitive: Must be able to analyze the information being received, count accurately, concentrate and focus on the given task, summarize the information being received, accurately interpret written data, synthesize information from multiple sources, write summaries as needed, interpret written or verbal instructions, and recognize social or professional behavioral cues.

Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office (medical clinic/office) environments. Rare exposure to dust and loud noises.
