Temp Packer information

What does a temp packer do?

A Temp Packer is a temporary worker responsible for packing products, materials, or goods for shipment or storage. Their duties typically include assembling boxes, inspecting items for damage, labeling packages, and ensuring orders are complete and correctly packed. Temp Packers work in warehouses, factories, or distribution centers and are often hired during busy seasons or to fill short-term staffing needs. Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently are important skills for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temp packer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temp Packer, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks, often without formal education requirements. Familiarity with basic warehouse equipment, packaging machinery, and inventory tracking systems is commonly expected. Reliability, teamwork, and the ability to follow instructions quickly help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient, accurate packing and contribute to smooth warehouse operations and customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges temp packers face during busy seasons, and how can they prepare for them?

Temp Packers often experience increased workloads and a faster pace during peak seasons, such as holidays or major sales events. This can lead to longer shifts, repetitive tasks, and the need for heightened attention to detail to ensure order accuracy. To prepare, it's helpful to wear comfortable clothing and supportive footwear, stay organized, and maintain clear communication with team members and supervisors. Adapting quickly to changing priorities and being proactive about asking questions can also make the busy periods more manageable and productive.

Job Title: Industrial Metal Packer

Job Description

Join a team that plays a critical role in the automotive industry by handling and preparing steel materials for shipment. This position is focused on working

with large sheet metal in a manufacturing environment rather than a traditional warehouse setting. You'll work alongside a team to inspect, stack, secure, and

prepare steel products that support major automotive manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Safely hand-stack large sheets of metal as part of a team.
  • Inspect steel sheets for defects, damage, and quality concerns.
  • Load and unload metal sheets from production lines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Secure steel products using banding materials for shipment.
  • Prepare and organize pallets for shipping.
  • Bolt steel products onto pallets or shipping platforms.
  • Ensure pallets are safe, stable, and ready for transport.
  • Assist with additional production and warehouse duties as needed.
  • Remain active and on your feet throughout 10-12 hour shifts.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in manufacturing, production, or warehouse environments preferred.
  • Ability to perform packing, shipping, receiving, and material handling tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with a willingness to help where needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous manufacturing or warehouse experience is a plus.
  • Construction or other labor-intensive experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong work history demonstrating reliability and commitment.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume industrial automotive environment.

Why Work Here?

This is a true temp-to-hire opportunity with long-term career potential. Employees who demonstrate strong performance and attendance have the

opportunity to advance into positions such as Stacker, Inspector, or Machine Operator. Once hired full-time, employees can enjoy competitive pay, skill

development opportunities, and a clear path for career growth within the automotive manufacturing industry.

Work Environment

Work in a flat-roll steel processing facility that supplies steel components used in automotive manufacturing, including materials used in Ford F-150 production. This is a fast-paced industrial environment focused on high-volume steel processing.

  • Non-climate-controlled facility; dress appropriately for weather conditions.
  • Industrial setting where work clothing may become dirty.
  • Majority of the shift spent standing, walking, and moving materials.
  • Work around heavy steel products and industrial equipment.
