As a Machine Operator, you'll work independently in the field placing buried service wire using a manually controlled gasoline or diesel-powered tractor/trencher, plow, boring machine, or other manual tools.You'll coordinate work activities with customers, local utilities, and government agencies, providing installation, repairs, maintenance as well as reconnection of fiber and copper services all while following safety practices and delivering the highest levels of service.

What you'll do:

  • Locates buried facilities near the route of "B" service wire using appropriate equipment. Operate a company vehicle with trailer and machinery.
  • Locate buried facilities near the route of buried wire using appropriate equipment.
  • Manual excavation utilizing a shovel.
  • Provide repairs to low voltage buried utilities or sprinkler systems. Provides temporary repairs to low voltage buried utilities, sprinkler systems, and sewage field lines damaged while performing other duties.
  • Periodic maintenance and non-complex repairs to equipment used in the performance of other responsibilities.
  • Reads and interprets simple instructions.
  • Follow established safety practices and procedures including the manufacturer's specifications for operation or use of equipment.

What you'll need:

  • Desire to work Monday through Friday with a shift length of 8hrs.
  • Ability to work mandatory overtime and holidays as service conditions require.
  • Eager to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Able to utilize various types of machines and tools.
  • Lift and move objects up to 120 pounds.
  • Use computers including hand-held devices to update work status and check new assignments.
  • Light commercial driver's license or equivalent required, depending on state law and be able to drive manual shift in some assignments.
  • Attain and maintain a DOT medical card.
  • Complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as required.
  • Demonstrate competency in the training requirements during probationary period to satisfy qualification achievement.
  • Previous operating experience with similar equipment is desirable.
  • Perform the above job duties with or without "reasonable accommodation."
  • May be required to go out of region/state due to workload and emergency work.
