Job Description

What is the Opportunity?

The Temporary Works Field Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, inspecting, and coordinating the temporary works on the construction site, including scaffolding, shoring, lifting, and rigging activities. This role ensures that all temporary works are designed, installed, used, and maintained in accordance with project specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable legislation. The coordinator provides technical expertise, conducts field reviews, and supports safe execution of construction operations involving temporary works.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of temporary works such as scaffolding, shoring, platforms, and access systems to verify compliance with engineering drawings, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor installation, modification, and removal of temporary works to ensure adherence to approved designs and safe work practices.
  • Identify deficiencies, hazards, or non-conformances and coordinate corrective actions with construction teams and subcontractors.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections, permits, and approvals for all temporary works.
  • Assist in implementing and developing the project's Lifting Procedure and ensure field teams understand and follow established requirements.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure lift plans, rigging plans, and supporting documentation are submitted, reviewed, and approved prior to execution.
  • Perform field checks of lifting and rigging activities to verify compliance with approved lift plans, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the review process for high-risk or critical lift plans by gathering required documentation, ensuring completeness, and escalating to the appropriate technical specialists or engineers when needed.
  • Monitor lifting operations to confirm proper rigging selection, equipment condition, load control, and communication practices.

Required Skills and Competencies

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driving license G.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment, under different weather and environmental conditions.
  • May require working extended hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet project deadlines.

You'll bring to the Team (Knowledge, Skills, Competencies)

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field. Relevant experience may offset educational requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of construction equipment, maintenance procedures, and safety standards.
  • 3-5 years of experience in construction, preferably with exposure to temporary works, scaffolding, lifting, or rigging.
  • Training or certification in rigging, crane safety, or lift planning is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, lift plans, and temporary works designs.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., CSA, OHSA, ASME).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
