Job Summary/Description:

Help Shape the Future of Live Sports Coverage in Hawaii

Hawaii News Now is expanding its commitment to live sports production and storytelling, and we are seeking an experienced, highly collaborative HNN Sports Live Game Producer / Director to help lead the execution of live sports broadcasts.

This is a unique hybrid role for a skilled live television professional who can think both editorially and technically, someone equally comfortable shaping the vision of a broadcast and calling a live show in real time.

The ideal candidate is both a producer and director, capable of developing compelling live broadcasts, managing production workflows, and confidently leading technical execution in fast-paced live sports environments.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Serve as lead producer and director for HNN Sports live game broadcasts and related programming
• Produce live broadcasts editorially, including rundowns, storylines, game elements, talent coordination, timing, and overall viewer experience
• Direct live sports productions, calling camera shots, graphics, replay, transitions, and technical elements in real time
• Partner closely with commentators, talent, graphics, replay, engineering, operations, and production crews to ensure high-quality execution
• Lead pre-production planning, including production meetings, communication workflows, show preparation, and game day coordination
• Collaborate with the Sports Program Director and HNN Sports leadership to shape broadcast style, storytelling approach, and production quality
• Help develop and maintain consistent production standards and workflows across HNN Sports broadcasts
• Troubleshoot challenges calmly and decisively during live productions
• Assist in the planning and execution of ancillary sports programming and special productions as needed
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional schedules aligned with sports programming and live events
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including contributing to broader station initiatives and special projects as business needs evolve

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Experience producing and directing live television, sports broadcasts, remote productions, or similar live event programming
• Strong understanding of control room workflows, timing, technical production, and live broadcast execution
• Demonstrated ability to both produce editorially and direct technically in fast-paced environments
• Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage teams under deadline and live event pressure
• Experience working with live sports productions strongly preferred
• Knowledge of broadcast systems, replay, graphics integration, camera workflows, and live production communication systems preferred
• Experience with ENPS newsroom systems and Ross OverDrive automation is helpful but not required
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and remain calm under pressure
• Comfortable working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed
