About The Role CITY OF KINGMAN SURVEY PARTY CHIEF ENGINEERING Learn more about our Benefits & Wellness Incentives We're looking for a Survey Party Chief to join our Engineering Department. In this role, you will perform a variety of technical, skilled survey engineering work in the field. You'll serve as a lead over the survey crew.

This role works under the direction of the City Surveyor or Assistant Surveyor. About You: You enjoy working outdoors, using equipment, and being hands-on with your work. As a leader, you take initiative, help coordinate field activities, provide guidance and support to crew members, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

You pay close attention to detail, follow instructions carefully, and take pride in accurate measurements and quality results. You can read maps and plans, perform math calculations confidently, and communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, clients, and the public. You are comfortable working on active construction sites, maintaining situational awareness, enforcing safety procedures, and serving as a positive example for the team at all times.

What You'll Need To Be Successful In This Role Graduation from high school diploma or GED equivalent Two (2) years of related technical or college-level coursework in surveying, with sufficient education to perform arithmetic calculations, to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, charts, and maps, and to maintain records and prepare reports. Five (5) years of field experience performing survey work. Some experience leading survey crews.

Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Arizona State Driver's License or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites.

What You'll Do For The City Of Kingman Crew Leadership, Supervision & Project Coordination (35%) - In this role, you will serve as a lead to field/survey crews, including assigning and monitoring work, and providing direction in performing various land survey operations. You will be responsible for directing all phases of work of a field survey crew in determining the exact location and measurements on control points, elevation, lines, and areas to secure data used for construction, contract payment, qualities, map making, boundary delineation, or other related purposes. Field Survey Operations, Survey Mapping & CAD Programming (25%) - You will be responsible for directing the surveying, construction, and layout of water and sewer lines, paving projects, storm drains, simple bridges, parks, and other public works projects.

This includes locating water lines, sewer lines, telephone lines, power poles, fences, gas meters, water meters, and curbs and centerlines of roads using complex electronic and optical instruments across various terrains and weather conditions; importing and converting data from survey equipment into CAD programs; and creating base mapping. Mathematical Calculations & Data Interpretation (20%) - Prepares and verifies mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic engineering; Computes and adjusts angles, distances, bearings, traverses, and completeness; Maintains accurate survey- and non-survey related records in the form of field notes, reports, and sketches; Maintains vertical and horizontal control notes in files, field book, and computer. Operates a programmable calculator to make mathematical calculations.

Calculates information needed to conduct surveys from plans, notes, maps, deeds, or other records. Participates in pre-construction and departmental meetings; Meets with contractors in order to communicate survey requirements. Data Management, Record Keeping & Field Documentation (20%) - Prepares and maintains a variety of records, logs, diaries, and/or other related documentation.

Keeps notes of level circuits, traverse closures, precise levels, property corners, topography notes, horizontal and vertical curves, cross-sections for earthwork, calculations, and building grades. Performs a variety of office duties, including researching existing survey records and compiling data required for current survey projects; Obtains drawings, aerial photographs, field notes, and old maps from other departments for reference; Interprets engineering plans for construction property and boundary controls; Interprets and computes field data; Evaluates for accuracy and completeness.
