Telephone Operator
The Telephone Operator is responsible for receiving incoming phone calls and answering them in a positive and courteous manner. Responsibilities include accurately transferring offsite and in-hour calls, effectively using a pager for in-house, offsite, and overhead paging; announcing all hospital codes, updating PBX directories, and assisting in registration when needed.

Essential Job Duties:
The Telephone Operator must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide excellent customer service to patients, the public, and hospital staff that may need assistance with connecting to a specific department or person via telephone. The Operator must be able to work in a fast paced environment while working multiple telephone-lines and handling a heavy volume of calls per shift that may come with many interruptions.


Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience

  • One year PBX or receptionist experience, in a hospital or medical setting preferred.
  • Good telephone, public relations, and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact diplomatically and to maintain a professional demeanor with physicians, the public, and hospital staff at all times.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of patients and facility.
  • Ability to work in an organized and independent manner.
  • Knowledge of a keyboard with typing speed of 35-40 words per minute.
