Job description

The Senior Network Engineer serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and support of enterprise network and internet-related services across multiple Aegis sites. This role maintains and advances network-related software and hardware, including routing, switching, wireless, firewall, VoIP, virtualization, VDI, and storage platforms that support LAN/WAN operations. The Senior Network Engineer provides advanced troubleshooting, technical guidance, standards development, and escalation support to the IT department and Aegis team members as needed.


Candidates must reside in Middle Tennessee and are required to come into the office when needed.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support virtual hosts (VMware), VDI (Citrix), and storage systems that support network and infrastructure operations
  • Design, administer, support, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN network services according to company policy, procedures, and established network standards
  • Support, maintain, patch, configure, and lifecycle-manage routers, switches, and related network infrastructure for all sites
  • Administer, optimize, and troubleshoot firewall services at all sites, including rule management, policy validation, and performance review
  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolve network performance, availability, and connectivity issues using network monitoring and diagnostic tools
  • Administer, support, optimize, and troubleshoot wireless network services across supported sites
  • Provide senior-level escalation assistance, mentoring, and technical guidance to Helpdesk and infrastructure team members as needed
  • Lead or participate in network-related projects, upgrades, incident response activities, and change-management planning to improve resiliency, IT Security, and operational stability
  • Create, maintain, and regularly review documentation, diagrams, standards, and support procedures for responsible systems
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, IT Security, Laboratory Operations, and other business stakeholders to ensure network services are reliable, secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs
  • Recommend improvements to network architecture, monitoring, documentation, and operational processes based on observed trends, risks, and support needs
  • Administer, support, and optimize VoIP telecommunication systems, including advanced troubleshooting and escalation support

Successful Candidates Must Possess:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field preferred
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience administering enterprise network infrastructure, firewall services, virtualization platforms, and storage systems required
  • Experience administering Palo Alto firewalls, enterprise routing and switching, wireless networking, and multi-site network environments required
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud infrastructure including Microsoft Azure, virtual networking, identity services, and cloud-hosted workloads preferred
  • Experience with Data Loss Prevention (DLP), cybersecurity technologies, and data protection platforms preferred
  • Network+, CCNA, or equivalent experience required; CCNP, Palo Alto, VMware, Microsoft Azure, or Citrix certifications strongly preferred
  • Experience with VMware, Citrix, PURE Storage, enterprise wireless platforms, firewalls, and highly available infrastructure environments strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical troubleshooting, coordinate remediation efforts, document root cause, and communicate status to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience supporting critical infrastructure in regulated, healthcare, laboratory, or other high-availability environments preferred
  • Experience working within established change-management, documentation, security, and compliance frameworks required
