OB Surgical Tech

 

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease.

Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services(Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services), imaging, and wound care.

 POSITION SUMMARY

Provides patient care by scrubbing surgical cases.  Assists with and provides appropriate supplies and equipment for vaginal deliveries.  Performs a variety of non-nursing functions including clerical functions.

 

Duties:

Transcribes physician orders accurately and timely.

Schedules medical procedures and appointments for patients.

Maintains patient confidentiality, maintains patient’s medical record in chronological order.

Enters all orders into POETS accurately and timely.

Enters data into Delivery Log books.

Utilizes all communication systems correctly (pagers, call system, phone).

Reports all identified and potential problems to the Charge Nurse and/or Clinical Nurse Manager.

Utilizes principles and techniques of operating asepsis.

Observes for and promptly reports breaks in sterile techniques.

Completes sponge, instrument, and needle counts and reports any discrepancy before skin closure begins.

Qualifications

Requirements:          

Education: Satisfactory completion of OR Technician course OR on the job training for at least one year.

 

Experience: One year hospital experience preferred.

 

License or Registration Requirements: Certification for Surgical Technologist required as of January 2008 OR obtaining certification number within three (3) months of graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program; obtains 15 CEU’s annually. CPR certification.
