The success of SCC is rooted in the mission of serving the community by "focusing on academic excellence, student success, workforce advancement, and life-long learning within a global society."SCC invites qualified candidates to apply for our Part-time Contract Trainer III: Electrician position to teach lecture and lab courses in the Electrician certificate and degree programs. The ideal candidate(s) will provide instructional classroom and practical hands-on training in the topics below. The candidate will create and deliver training that complies with industry-recognized Electrician procedures.The trainer will facilitate engaging classroom and laboratory instruction, mentor learners through technical projects, and ensure safe and effective use of equipment and tools. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with practical teaching or training experience and a passion for experiential learning.Courses may be daytime, evening, or Saturdays depending on the need. Part-time appointments are made on a semester-by-semester (as needed) basis.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:The selected candidate will demonstrate knowledge of current practices in electrical theory and industry/educational hands-on experience. They will define how to assess student learning outcomes, foster effective learning in both classroom and lab settings.Deliver instructional classroom and practical hands-on training in electrical topics.Develop and deliver curriculum that complies with industry-recognized electrical procedures.Teach various electrical principles, safety procedures, tools and equipment, and installation techniques.Develop class projects, technical assignments, and laboratory instruction.Prepare students to enter the electrician workforce.Maintain accurate records of student progress and performance.Provide a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Fully licensed electrician or trade school experience in Electrical or a related field with five (5) years of experience in the electrical industry. Relevant work-related experience, recognized certifications, registered apprenticeship, and/or licensures may be considered in lieu of educational requirementsWorking knowledge of electrical systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of residential and/or commercial wiring systemsUnderstanding of electrical theory, circuits, controls, motors, and power distribution systemsAbility to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manualsDemonstrated electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in applied settingsAbility to work independently and manage instructional assignmentsStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office productsStrong oral and written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal and teamwork skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgmentAbility to work flexible hours when necessaryDemonstrated basic literacy skills sufficient to support instruction, documentation, and communicationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Fully licensed electrician with ten (10) years of residential and commercial experience; or Associate's degree or advanced trade school experience along with at least five (5) years of experience in the electrical industryExperience delivering hands-on instruction in electrical systems, controls, or related training environmentsIndustry experience with commercial and/or industrial electrical systems, including motor controls, PLCs, or automation systemsFamiliarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local/state electrical codesExperience using electrical testing and diagnostic equipmentRelevant industry certifications (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, NCCER) or experience aligning training with employer and workforce needsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to stand and walk for extended periods in a lab, classroom, or shop environmentAbility to lift, carry, and move tools, materials, and equipment up to 50 poundsAbility to safely operate, demonstrate, and supervise electrical tools and equipmentManual dexterity to handle wiring, tools, and electrical componentsAbility to bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and work at heights as needed for instructionVisual acuity sufficient to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical componentsAbility to communicate effectively in a lab or jobsite environment, including hearing and responding to instructions and safety signalsAbility to work in typical electrical lab or field environments, including exposure to noise, temperature variations, and energized systems (following safety protocols)St. Charles Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer
