What is a technical enablement manager?

A Technical Enablement Manager is responsible for equipping technical teams—such as sales engineers, support staff, and consultants—with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to effectively perform their roles. This includes developing and delivering training programs, creating documentation, and ensuring teams are up to date with the latest products, technologies, and best practices. They act as a bridge between product development and customer-facing teams to ensure technical accuracy and alignment. Their goal is to improve team performance, customer satisfaction, and overall organizational efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical enablement manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Enablement Manager, you need a deep understanding of technical concepts, experience in training and enablement, and often a background in computer science or engineering. Familiarity with learning management systems, content development tools, and certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Salesforce Certified Instructor are typically valuable. Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills help you translate complex topics and manage cross-functional initiatives effectively. These skills are crucial for ensuring teams are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to drive product adoption and customer success.

How does a technical enablement manager typically collaborate with product and sales teams to drive successful enablement initiatives?

Technical Enablement Managers often act as a bridge between product, sales, and sometimes customer success teams. They work closely with product teams to deeply understand new features and translate technical details into accessible training materials. At the same time, they partner with sales to identify knowledge gaps and deliver targeted enablement sessions or resources. Frequent cross-functional meetings and feedback loops are common, ensuring that training aligns with evolving product capabilities and market needs. This collaborative approach helps ensure sales teams are confident and effective when engaging with customers.

Technology Integration & Enablement Lead

Within Peraton's Space and Mission Solutions sector, there is an immediate need for a cleared Technology Integration & Enablement Lead to serve as the operational backbone of our emergent technology initiatives. This is a full-time position based in Reston, VA with flexibility for hybrid work and travel to customer and corporate sites as needed.

This role, reporting direct to the Sector Chief Technology Officer (CTO), is the connective tissue between our Emergent Technology SMEs, the CTO's strategic vision, business line leadership, and other sectors throughout the enterprise. Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Technology Roadmapping & Standards
    • Develop, govern, and maintain technology roadmaps in partnership with Emergent Technology SMEs and sector stakeholders
    • Translate roadmaps into actionable inputs for capture strategies, proposal development, and program planning while balancing near-term customer readiness with longer-term technology priorities and emerging trends
  • IRAD Strategy Execution
    • Execute the IRAD strategy set by the CTO, managing the full lifecycle from ideation through investment decision to project execution while tracking business impact metrics.
    • Own the IRAD vetting process-evaluating proposals for technical merit, business alignment, customer relevance, and growth potential in partnership with SMEs and sector stakeholders
    • Maintain visibility into sector-wide IRAD portfolio, identifying gaps, overlaps, and opportunities for consolidation or expansion
  • Technology Transfer & Integration
    • Strengthen and maintain relationships with peer sectors and other internal organizations to help identify technologies, tools, and approaches that could enhance Space sector capabilities. Drive technology transfer into sector programs and pursuits
    • Facilitate knowledge transfer from Emergent Technology SMEs into business lines-ensuring innovations don't stay siloed with individual experts
    • Create mechanisms for capturing and disseminating lessons learned, best practices, and reusable technical assets
  • Talent Development & Management
    • Execute the talent development strategy aligned to the CTO's vision by supporting talent retention and strategic workforce planning across the sector, and ensuring mechanisms are in place to maintain visibility into workforce capabilities and readiness
    • Partner with HR and business leadership to define career paths for technical staff, particularly in emergent technology areas
    • Identify training needs and collaborate with SMEs to develop both formal and informal training programs to transfer and embed expert knowledge across the organization.
    • Evaluate and recommend tools and platforms that enhance technical productivity and capability development
  • Program Enablement & Customer Value
    • Partner with program managers to identify efficiencies and optimization opportunities on existing programs-reducing cost, improving delivery, or enhancing quality
    • Identify ways to add value to customers through technology infusion, process improvement, or capability enhancement on current contracts
    • Work with SMEs to assess programs for emergent technology insertion opportunities that benefit both customer mission and Peraton performance
    • Support new business pursuits by ensuring technical differentiators, talent, and tools are available to capture teams
    • Connect program needs with IRAD investments, technology transfer opportunities, and SME expertise
    • Track and communicate business impact of technology enablement activities-cost savings, customer satisfaction, contract growth
  • Operational Excellence
    • Ensure stable execution of technology initiatives-roadmapping, IRAD, technology transfer, talent development, and program enablement all running smoothly
    • Identify and remove obstacles that prevent SMEs and technical staff from focusing on high-value activities
    • Continuously improve processes, tools, and governance to increase efficiency and impact
    • Provide regular reporting to CTO and sector leadership on execution status, IRAD portfolio health, talent development progress, and program enablement outcomes
    • Maintain visibility across all initiatives to identify synergies, gaps, and opportunities for consolidation
