About the Team

Data Products is one of the critical pillars within the newly established Chief Data Office (CDO), part of T. Rowe Price's Chief Operating Office (COO). The pillar is responsible for establishing enterprise data products which are software applications or services that leverage data to provide valuable insights, information, or functionality to users or other systems and are crucial for our firm to enable data-driven decision making.

Role Summary

Director of Data Products reports to the Head of Data Governance, Operations and Products. In this role you will help define T Rowe Price's approach to building and improving data products through an Agile mindset. This includes collaborating on a cohesive roadmap for data-related initiatives, encompassing data governance, data quality, data integration and data analytics. You will work closely with various functions and business units to align data needs with business outcomes, ensuring data is utilized effectively to drive informed decision-making and support business growth, efficiency and risk initiatives and operations.

Impact:

The role is pivotal in driving the development and success of data driven solutions within the CDO, COO and Corporate strategic priorities. You will have the opportunity to set the strategic vision for data products, aligning them with business objectives, and prioritizing features and improvements. Through collaborations with cross-functional teams, data product directors ensure that data products deliver actionable data, insights and value enabling informed decision-making and driving our business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate a clear product vision and strategy aligned with business objectives and overarching Enterprise Data Strategy.

  • Create and maintain a product roadmap that prioritizes features, enhancements, and data sources based on business value and user needs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from various business and technology areas to understand their data requirements and ensure the data product's relevance and effectiveness.

  • Oversee data collection, ingestion, and transformation processes to ensure high-quality, reliable, and accessible data.

  • Ensure that data modelling, business data glossary, and metadata management processes are consistent with enterprise principles, and support all consumption patterns.

  • Provide senior management with a clear lens on the progress and performance of critical initiatives.

  • Monitor objective and key results (OKRs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the impact of the data product and making data-driven decisions for improvements.

  • Work collaboratively across the CDO to establish and enforce good product management principles are followed consistency across the CDO's book of work.

  • Implement data governance policies, access controls, and compliance measures to maintain data security, privacy, and quality within data products.

  • Facilitate user training and support to ensure that stakeholders can effectively utilize the data product for decision-making and analysis.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or a related disciple (or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience)

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience ideally in a technical engineering/program / product / project leadership role with demonstrated experience of managing a portfolio of projects.

  • A deep understanding of data engineering, data governance principles, frameworks and methodologies, and experience applying them in the real world all stages of the data lifecycle.

  • Execution excellence and a track record of delivering long term business value.

  • Strong risk management awareness and understanding

  • A sound understanding of financial markets.

  • Ability to think and plan strategically, working in ambiguous environments.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to aggregate and simplify complex, disparate information.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based data environments.

  • Experience navigating complex, global organizations.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Entrepreneurial and innovation mindset

  • Highest level of integrity and the ability to foster trust and loyalty.

Preferred:

  • In-depth understanding of asset management industry

  • Experience leading and working in Agile environments, ideally at scale but with the ability to flex as needed e.g., waterfall.

  • Lean Six Sigma or related skills and experience.

  • Some, but not necessarily all the following:

    • Data Governance, Data Management, and Analytics

    • Data warehousing and data operations.

    • Data product management

    • Product Management

    • Data valuation and working with data as an asset.

    • Metadata, reference data and master data management.

    • Change management, using established frameworks.
