Our Division Pest Control Technical Director is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic, technical, and operational direction of pest control services within the Midwest Division of Orkin. This role ensures the highest standards of pest management are maintained, in compliance with industry regulations, while driving innovation, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction. The director acts as both a technical expert and a leader, guiding teams, shaping policy, and serving as the authority on all matters related to pest control in the region.
LOCATION: Candidates must reside in a city within the geographic footprint of the Midwest Division Territory: Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; Louisville, KY; Minneapolis, MN; Des Moines, IA; or Omaha, NE.

Responsibilities
Your Key Responsibilities include...
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the regional pest control strategy aligned with Orkin's vision, taking into account emerging trends, risks, and client needs.
  • Technical Oversight: Serve as the subject matter expert for all pest management protocols, ensuring compliance with national and regional regulations, certifications, and best practices. Work closely with Division leadership to fully support technical excellence at the region and branch levels.
  • Operational Support: Strive to support Division goals associated with customer service, service quality, training, and customer retention. Work closely with region leaders to ensure technical excellence and service quality remain a key focus
  • Client Relations: Act as the primary technical contact for high-value or strategic accounts within the division, offering expert advice, supporting sales efforts, and addressing complex client concerns.
  • Innovation & Technology: Provide input into the Rollins Innovation team to identify, evaluate, and implement emerging pest control technologies, products, and digital solutions to enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret changes in relevant legislation and industry standards, ensuring the division's practices are always compliant and proactively addressing any gaps.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the technical budget for the region, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources and supporting commercial growth.
  • Incident Response & Investigation: Lead technical investigations into pest-related incidents, infestations, or client complaints, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (sales, marketing, HR, operations) to align division technical initiatives with broader organizational goals.

Qualifications
The Experience You Will Bring (Minimum Requirements):
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in entomology, biology, public health, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in the pest control industry, including direct technical leadership and field experience at the branch or region level
  • Professional certifications such as Board Certified Entomologist (BCE), Certified Pest Control Operator (CPCO), state pest control licensee or equivalents are highly desirable.
  • Strong record of regulatory compliance, health & safety management, and quality assurance.
  • Experience working with diverse client industries (e.g., food manufacturing, hospitality, healthcare, residential).
  • Proven experience introducing new technologies, methodologies, or products into operational settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage regional budgets and deliver commercial outcomes.

Key Competencies
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of pest biology, integrated pest management (IPM), pesticide chemistry, application techniques, and safety standards.
  • Regulatory Acumen: Familiarity with local, regional, and national regulations governing pesticide use, health & safety, environmental protection, and public health.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to work independently, manage change, and drive performance in a dynamic technical environment.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, including the capacity to explain complex technical concepts or protocols to non-specialists and represent the organization externally.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex technical challenges efficiently and effectively.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of the latest scientific research, techniques, and regulatory changes.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
  • Candidate must reside within the ORKIN MIDWEST DIVISION
  • Must be able to travel to branch locations, field sites, conferences, and partner facilities, etc.
  • Estimate 50% or more travel.
