Minimum Qualifications:
  • Is a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware.
  • Demonstrates the tact to deal amicably and effectively with people.
  • Possesses the leadership skills required to effectively direct subordinates while maintaining a positive working environment.
  • Possesses skills to carry out a large-scale food service program.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of others.
  • Maintains inventory records and prepares inventory reports.
  • Possesses appropriate financial management and accounting skills.
  • Is physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds 50 feet.

Job Goal:
  • To perform skilled job functions in a kitchen as a cook or baker. A technical assistant assists the manager and serves as manager when the manager is absent.

Primary Duties:
  • Assists the manager in promoting the school lunch program, the nutritional well-being of each student, and the orderly and effective operation of the kitchen.
  • Accepts responsibility for tasks designated by the manager.
  • Knows the proper methods of preparing, cooking, baking, and serving food.
  • Knows laws and regulations relating to the preparation and serving of food.
  • Participates in the preparation, cooking, and baking of a variety of foods.
  • Follows procedures outlined by the manager relevant to orders, purchases, storage, inventories, and bank deposits.
  • Performs necessary clean-up work.
  • Represents the school and the school district in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
  • Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Indian River School District as established by the Board of Education and the Superintendent.
  • Performs other assigned duties.
