The Director of Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Services programs will develop, plan, schedule, administer, and monitor Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Services training courses in accordance with State and VGCC policy and procedure. The Director will ensure compliance with standards mandated by the NC Office of the State Fire Marshall (OSFM), and the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). The Director provides leadership in all phases of Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Services programs and shall act as a liaison between the communities of interest and the college's programs.

Essential Duties- Plan, organize and direct the instructional delivery of assigned program areas consistent with the goals, policies, and procedures of the College, Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), and Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- Supervise instructor and instruction of fire, rescue, and emergency management, and EMS classes. Monitor progress of classes taught.
- Prioritize and assign work; conduct performance evaluations; ensure staff are trained; ensure employees follow policies and procedures; and make hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
- Prepare, review, interpret, and analyze information (data, contracts, forms, schedules, and reports) and make decisions based on findings.
- Work collaboratively with advisory boards and community stakeholders to create and deliver training opportunities that meet industry needs.
- Utilize technology for completion of operational processes
- Support student registration and recruitment efforts, as appropriate or required.
- Maintain the program's compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and licensing agencies (as applicable).
- Adhere to College policies and procedures, to include following the appropriate chain of supervision.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as needed.
Physical Demands- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds (e.g., instructional materials, small equipment) and occasionally up to 40-50 pounds (e.g., simulation mannequins, EMS training equipment)
- Ability to stand and walk for portions of the workday in classrooms, labs, and clinical partner facilities
- Ability to occasionally climb stairs, stoop, kneel, or crouch to access equipment and instructional spaces.
