Job description

Iteris is seeking multiple TMC Operations Managers to work out of the TDOT 1 & 2 regions. Under the general direction of the Project Manager, TMC Operations Manager manages the daily operations activities in accordance with the TDOT TMC Operations Manual, protocols, and policies.

Please note: The ideal candidate will be splitting their time between two locations between Knoxville, TN 37914 and Chattanooga, TN 37416.

What you will be doing:

  • Day-to-day management of the Control Room Operations staff, scheduling and resources, including problem resolution concerning Control Room Operations
  • Ensuring effective communication with the State Project Manager, TMC Team Leads and Shift Supervisors
  • Ensuring effective as-needed communication with the Contractor’s Project Manager and other management staff
  • Ensuring effective daily contact with all Contractor Shift Supervisors on a daily basis
  • Ensuring effective face-to-face communication with all Contractor TMC Technician personnel on a weekly basis. At least once per month, the Contractor shall ensure that the TMC Operations Manager communicates in-person rather than virtual, unless otherwise directed by the State
  • Participating in TIM Team meetings, TIM after-action review meetings, and ensuring appropriate interagency coordination
  • Ensuring appropriate interagency coordination with other RTMCs
  • Participating in TMC tours and presentations
  • Attending meetings as directed by the State to include Regional TIM Team meetings and others as directed.
  • Preparing monthly reports of performance measures for Technicians and Supervisors
  • Determining and using existing measures of effectiveness in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in providing transportation management, traveler information, and incident management
  • Actively collaborating in updates to TDOT TMC Operations Manual
  • Actively collaborating in the development and update of Supervisor and Technician training and certification materials to conform to updates in the TDOT TMC Operations Manual
  • Modifying training materials as necessary as a result of system and employee performance analysis
  • Overseeing the Supervisors and Technicians training and certification process
  • Ensuring adequate staff coverage of the Control Room
  • Performing all other tasks assigned by the State

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the operations of a facility using employee policies and procedures, equipment, systems and software, tools, daily operations, and security and safety procedures similar to those described in the TMC Operations Manual
  • Understanding of freeway management, traffic incident management, dispatching, traveler information, and traffic engineering principles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Incident Management operations
  • Skilled in the use of Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) applications
  • Skilled in the use of the Windows operating system
  • High-level knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Good understanding of key management concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in layman’s terms
  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and be on-call 24 hours/day
  • Ability to author technical reports, manuals, and correspondence
  • Ability to coordinate real-time activities and priorities
  • Able to always maintain a professional demeanor and appearance

Iteris anticipates paying a base salary between $105,000 to $125,000 for this role. Actual pay offered may be below or above these amounts, depending on the individual’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
