What are Tank Surveyors?

Tank Surveyors are professionals responsible for inspecting, measuring, and assessing storage tanks that hold liquids such as oil, chemicals, or water. Their work ensures that tanks are structurally sound, free from leaks or damage, and compliant with industry standards and regulations. Tank Surveyors use specialized equipment to determine the quantity and quality of the contents, which is essential for inventory control, safety, and environmental protection. They often work for shipping, oil and gas, or storage companies and may also provide certification or inspection reports.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tank Surveyor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tank Surveyor, you need expertise in measurement techniques, calibration, and inspection standards, often supported by training in engineering or a related technical field. Familiarity with equipment such as ullage tapes, tank calibration software, and compliance with international standards like API is essential. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong communication skills help you identify discrepancies and report findings accurately. These competencies are crucial for ensuring precise volume calculations, regulatory compliance, and the safe management of liquid cargo in storage tanks.
