A Tandem Computer refers to a line of fault-tolerant computer systems originally developed by Tandem Computers Inc., which was founded in 1974. These systems were designed for high availability and continuous operation, making them popular in industries requiring reliable transaction processing like banking and telecommunications. Tandem computers use a unique architecture that allows for components to be replaced or repaired without shutting down the system. Over time, the company and its technology were acquired and integrated into Hewlett-Packard (HP) as the NonStop server line.
