Job description

DESCRIPTION:
The Property Accountant is responsible for executing key operational and financial accounting activities within Talos Energy's policies, procedures, and control framework. This role serves as a critical link between Operations, Land, and Accounting to ensure accurate accounting of operated and non-operated offshore properties, including cost tracking, accruals, and financial close.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for numerous property accounting activities at Talos Energy including but not limited to:
  • Track and reconcile tangible equipment, including material transfers, yard balances, and valuation accuracy
  • Support cash management processes, including AFE cash calls, partner billing, and related reporting
  • Assist with the calculation of Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO), including the calculation of accretion expense and application of decommissioning costs
  • Support monthly and quarterly close processes to ensure deadlines and reporting requirements are met
  • Preparing journal entries and maintaining multiple account reconciliations
  • Maintain compliance with SOX and internal control requirements, including documentation and testing support
  • Collaborate with Operations, Land, and Procurement/Supply Chain to ensure accurate cost classification, accruals, and asset tracking
  • Identify and assist implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy of property accounting processes
  • Support joint interest accounting processes, including cost allocations and partner billings as necessary

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • 2+ years of property accounting experience at an upstream oil and gas company
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Able to perform detailed work with speed and accuracy
  • Able to organize and prioritize a dynamic workload involving detailed processes and time-sensitive priorities
  • Understanding of upstream accounting principles, including AFE accounting, accrual processes, and operational cost tracking
  • Communicates effectively, both orally in person and using a telephone and in writing
  • Demonstrates integrity and sound judgement in handling ethical matters
  • Willing to work extended hours as needed during month-end close, reporting deadlines, and other high-demand periods
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience in BOLO accounting system preferred

  • There are no certificates, licenses or registrations required for this position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position
