Job description

The Portfolio Planner / Planning Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the Company Rig Schedule and the Drilling and Completions (D&C) Capital Expenditure (Capex) Forecasting, Budgeting and Planning process. This role serves as the primary owner of D&C planning data and deliverables across the organization, interfacing daily with Operations, Corporate Development, Exploration, Development, Finance and Accounting groups. The Portfolio Planner / Planning Engineer plays a central role in the monthly Latest Estimate (LE) cycle and Annual Budget process and is a key contributor to senior management and Board-level reporting on D&C capital and schedule.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own and maintain the Company Rig Schedule via collaboration with Exploration, Development and D&C Leadership; host monthly Rig Schedule review meetings with key operational and financial stakeholders
  • Maintain detailed project schedules for near-term and active projects, including Long Lead items and key decisions leading to execution of Drilling and Completions, First Oil, etc.
  • Identify and communicate cross-functional scheduling constraints and work proactively with Wells, Major Projects, Exploration and Development groups to evaluate project investment sequencing and optionality
  • Lead compilation and delivery of Monthly LE Drilling, Completion, and Facilities CapEx forecasts, including near-term and long-term CapEx assumptions across all Rig Schedule projects
  • Work closely with Exploration, Corporate Development and Development RE Techs to ensure accuracy across all PHDWin database inputs for New Drill Projects in LE and Budget
  • Coordinate Operations Planning group inputs for the annual budget and long-term planning process covering D&C and Major Projects CapEx
  • Maintain a robust database of all New Drill projects in conjunction with Wells, Major Projects, Exploration and Development groups; drive continuous improvement of data governance and project tracking processes
  • Support AFE accrual reviews by coordinating with Asset Planners and Operations to reconcile costs and ensure timely updates are reflected across all active AFEs
  • Prepare ad hoc deliverables for senior management, including materials for Board of Directors meetings, IR presentations, and other executive-level reporting
  • Partner with IT to develop and maintain impactful Spotfire dashboards for Planning Group
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual lookback analysis, including CapEx variance and economic performance reviews

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 Minimum of 5 years oil and gas industry experience, offshore E&P experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or related engineering field or business administration, M.B.A a plus

 QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • General understanding of production, operations, accounting, drilling, completions, and plug and abandonment concepts and terminology
  • Demonstrated experience in forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis within an E&P planning or finance function
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and large data set management; proficiency in Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with project scheduling tools (P6 or equivalent) is a plus
  • Ability to manage a high-volume, cross-functional workload with competing priorities and time-sensitive deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to prepare and present clear, concise deliverables to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong collaborative instincts; proven ability to work effectively across technical, financial, and operational teams
