Job description

Great Opportunity for a Hands-On Dev Manager to lead Empyreal Logistics' Business Systems and Development Team!
The Technology Department is responsible for the strategy, delivery, and operation of all technology capabilities that support Empyreal Logistics' business objectives. This includes securing company data and systems, maintaining reliable and scalable IT infrastructure, delivering and optimizing business systems, and developing software solutions that enable operational efficiency and growth. The department partners closely with business leaders to ensure technology investments are aligned with organizational priorities, risk is effectively managed, and innovation supports long-term scalability.
Business Systems - Oversees the strategy, implementation, and optimization of enterprise business systems that support operations, finance, logistics, and analytics. Ensures systems are integrated, reliable, and aligned with business processes to drive efficiency and data-driven decision-making. Development - Leads software development strategy and execution across internal tools, customer-facing platforms, and integrations. Responsible for architecture, engineering standards, delivery timelines, and aligning technology solutions with business objectives.
Empyreal Logistics is a Denver, Colorado-based company dedicated to delivering superior cash management solutions through a comprehensive, 4-tiered approach encompassing logistics, cash management, compliance, and monitoring. We partner with clients across the nation to ensure the secure, reliable transportation of their most critical assets - combining operational precision with an unwavering commitment to safety and regulatory standards.
At Empyreal Logistics, the safety of our team members is our highest priority. We are a fast-growing logistics company that takes pride in building a workforce of dedicated professionals who share our values of integrity, accountability, and excellence.
Responsibilities and Duties include, but not limited to:
Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the team; manage capacity across project work, BAU, and strategic initiatives; recruit as the team scales.
  • Coach the team on effective AI-assisted workflows - prompt design, agentic delegation, reviewing AI output, and knowing when not to use it. AI-Native Development
  • Use Claude Code as a primary development tool and establish the team standards, hooks, slash commands, and plugins that make it effective in our codebase.
  • Build with the Claude API and Agent SDK - model selection, tool use, MCP servers, evaluation, and cost/latency trade-offs.
  • Drive Cowork adoption with BSAs and other non-developer roles; create reusable skills and plugins for the org.
  • Establish guardrails for safe, compliant AI use in a regulated environment: data handling, secrets, prompt-injection defense, output review, audit trails.

Engineering & Delivery
  • Own the SDLC end-to-end; set engineering standards and code-review practices (including for AI-generated code); contribute hands-on as a player-coach.
  • Lead architectural decisions across both React, Node and the Azure-native stack; ensure scalable, secure, maintainable solutions.
  • Run an Agile/Scrum cadence appropriate for a small team; manage timelines, remove blockers, communicate clearly to executives and stakeholders.

Business Systems & Org-Wide AI
  • Own the strategy and ongoing optimization of enterprise business systems across operations, finance, logistics, and analytics; ensure integration, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Partner with the CTO, IT Systems, and IT Security to expand Claude usage across Empyreal - surfacing high-leverage automation opportunities outside Engineering and supporting safe rollout.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years in software development or business systems; 2+ years leading a team.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field
  • Daily working proficiency with Claude Code (or equivalent agentic coding tools) - fluent in workflows, hooks, sub-agents, and MCP.
  • Hands-on building experience with the Claude API or Agent SDK (or comparable LLM platforms) in a production context - including tool use, evaluation, and cost management. • Track record of introducing AI-assisted development practices to a team and measurably improving delivery speed or quality.
  • Proficiency across our stack - Node.js, .NET, REST and React/TypeScript - with hands-on experience in the Azure ecosystem and enterprise auth patterns (SSO, RBAC).
  • Strong grasp of system architecture and integration patterns; experience overseeing BSAs and translating requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Understanding of financial services / cash management compliance, security, and regulatory considerations.
  • Strong communication skills - bridges technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience deploying Claude or similar AI tools to non-developer audiences (operations, finance, support) - building skills, plugins, or workflows that stuck.
  • Familiarity with MCP, prompt-injection defenses, and AI evaluation frameworks.
  • Cash-in-Transit, banking, armored logistics, or financial services background; familiarity with PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Enterprise business systems experience (ERP, CRM, WMS, finance, analytics) and BI/data integration tooling.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes operations and DevOps practices (CI/CD, containerization, observability).
  • Small-to-mid-size company experience where wearing multiple hats is the norm.
  • Lead using the Servant Leadership methodology.

Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks
  • Reaching overhead, and at or below shoulder level
  • Repeating motions, which includes the wrist, hands, and/ or fingers
  • Near and far visual acuity
  • Use of stairs
  • Communicating with others to exchange information

Empyreal Logistics Culture:
  • Acts in a manner that portrays Empyreal's vision, values, and WOW culture.
  • Establishes respect for everyone, fosters an environment that builds and sustains productive relationships.
  • Addresses conflict respectfully and constructively.
  • Works in partnership within and across workgroups.
  • Represents Empyreal as a transportation and customer service professional.
  • Places value not only on what work gets done, but also how it gets done.
