STATUS: Non-Exempt

HOURS OF WORK: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, grant funded for 1 year

ABOUT MIXTECO INDIGENA COMMUNITY ORGANIZING PROJECT

Founded in 2001, Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) supports, organizes and empowers the indigenous migrant communities of California’s Central Coast through improved access to health and community resources, community organizing, language interpretation, education, direct assistance, cultural promotion, and our indigenous-led Radio Indígena community radio station. MICOP offers a fast-paced, multilingual and multicultural work environment dedicated to carrying out our mission.

Summary

The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining, protecting, and updating data and Information Technology for all MICOP’s staff. This position is responsible for installing security systems, and monitoring for outside security data breaches. The primary role is to ensure MICOP’s organization-wide data is protected and safely retained and destroyed as necessary. The Systems Administrator will work alongside MICOP’s data consultant to perform work to meet the organization’s IT security needs and MICOP’s IT Administrator to assure all IT systems are operating smoothly.  

Responsibilities

• System and Network Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, servers, networks, and other IT infrastructure components to assure data security. Perform regular maintenance tasks such as applying patches and updates, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues.

• Security and Data Protection: Implement and maintain security measures to protect the organization's systems, networks, and data from unauthorized access, viruses, and other threats. Monitor network traffic, manage user access controls, and conduct regular data backups to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery.

• User Support: Provide technical support to end-users, including data retention and destruction guidelines for each program, assisting with system access and permissions, and resolving technical issues in a timely manner. Prioritize support requests based on their urgency and impact on business operations.

• Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain documentation of IT systems, network configurations, and standard operating procedures. Keep an inventory of hardware and software assets and track licensing agreements. Generate reports on system performance, security incidents, and support metrics.

• IT Infrastructure Planning: Collaborate with management and other stakeholders to develop IT data security strategies. Identify areas for improvement, recommend enhancements, and implement solutions to optimize system performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

• IT Policies and Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to data privacy, security, and IT operations. Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and guidelines to maintain a secure and productive IT environment.

• Training and Knowledge Sharing: Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate employees on IT best practices, new technologies, and secure data retention and destruction protocols.  

• Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with IT vendors and service providers. Coordinate hardware and software procurement, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.

• Provide general administrative and Information Technology support to Medi-Cal Navigators program

• Update security and backup data on a regular basis.

• Periodically perform IT security reviews.

• Data encryption.

• Create a disaster recovery plan for data.

• Track data and create reports as needed.

• Maintain and update Brivo access control security system for doors.

• SaaS applications (software as a service).

• Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS

•  Passion and commitment to attaining MICOP’s mission.

• Strong knowledge of network protocols, hardware, and software systems.

• Proficiency in operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux) and virtualization technologies.

• Familiarity with network administration and security tools (firewalls, intrusion detection systems, etc.).

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong attention to detail, high level of accuracy in data entry. 

• Strong communication, and interpersonal skills conducive to providing excellent customer service.

• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

• Excellent follow up and follow through. 

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
