POSITION SUMMARY – Senior Software Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly analytical and hands‑on Software Design Engineer to join our engineering team. This role blends high‑level system architecture with deep‑dive coding, and requires strong advocacy in Jira to drive execution from abstract vision to concrete delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Hands‑On Development: Write clean, maintainable, scalable production code; participate in code reviews; contribute to core repository development; automate build and deployment; create integration tests; identify, fix, and communicate defects.
  • System & Technical Architecture: Design robust software architectures, API contracts, data models, and component workflows that support long‑term product strategy.
  • Jira‑Driven Execution: Own technical handoffs, sprint readiness, and translate designs into Jira Epics, Stories, and detailed tasks with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Agile Leadership & Refinement: Lead backlog grooming and technical spikes; map and prioritize dependencies, technical debt, and architectural runway.
  • Collaborative Problem Solving: Partner with Product Managers and Solution Architects to evaluate feasibility, scope technical effort, and decompose initiatives into sprint items.
  • Mentorship and Continuous Improvement: Guide engineering principles; mentor teammates; onboard new engineers; refine practices to boost quality and velocity.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Engineering Excellence: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; 4+ years of production‑grade software engineering experience.
  • Advanced Jira Proficiency: Exceptional experience structuring boards, tracking work, and maintaining a pristine backlog.
  • System Design: Strong background in design patterns, architecture, API design, and data modeling.
  • Documentation & Precision: Ability to write precise technical documentation and diagrams, eliminating ambiguity.
  • Communication: Strong collaborative skills and ability to articulate complex trade‑offs to stakeholders and peers.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience building automated workflows or custom reporting scripts with Jira Cloud APIs.
    • Familiarity with Jira Automation rules, advanced road‑mapping, or JQL.
    • Experience guiding or mentoring junior engineers through technical design reviews.
