Job description

What You Will Do:
As a System Administrator Level 2 at Independent Software, you will provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of mission-critical Information Technology (IT) systems supporting national defense and intelligence operations. You will support day-to-day IT operations across client/server systems, storage, network infrastructure, and enterprise platforms while ensuring system reliability, integrity, and compliance.
In this role, you will provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) support, assisting with system monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, automation, and operational support activities across Linux and Windows environments. You will work alongside engineering and operations teams to maintain secure and resilient enterprise systems while supporting users and mission stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
ย 

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for troubleshooting, maintenance, and operational support of IT systems and infrastructure
  • Support day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for client/server, storage, network, and virtualized environments
  • Configure, administer, and maintain Linux (CentOS/RHEL) and Windows operating systems
  • Install, load, troubleshoot, and maintain operating system software and system enhancements to improve reliability and performance
  • Perform system patching, vulnerability remediation, and support compliance activities including IAVA reporting
  • Support infrastructure monitoring and cyber hygiene activities using tools such as Nessus, SecurityCenter, UAM, Trellis, and related STE toolsets
  • Write and maintain shell scripts and Ansible playbooks to support automation, configuration management, and operational efficiency
  • Support PKI-related activities including certificate installation, renewal, and maintenance
  • Build, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot virtual machines and enterprise infrastructure components
  • Support Git repositories, configuration tracking, and system documentation efforts including SOPs and Confluence updates
  • Provide support for dispatch systems, hardware troubleshooting, escalation activities, and communication with agency stakeholders and internal customers
  • Troubleshoot network components and support operating system enhancements to improve system performance and reliability

Required Skills and Qualifications:
ย 
  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, particularly RHEL/CentOS environments
  • Experience supporting Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems in enterprise environments
  • Experience supporting virtual machines, storage infrastructure, system monitoring, and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with shell scripting, Ansible, Git, automated patching, and configuration managementExperience reviewing vulnerability reports and implementing remediation/compliance solutions
  • Familiarity with Nessus, UAM, Trellis, Biscotti, LatteArt, and related STE toolsets
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate technical issues effectively to management, users, and support teams
  • Experience documenting technical procedures, workflows, and operational support activities

Education and Experience:
ย 
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university plus eight (8) years of systems administration experience
  • ย In lieu of a degree, four (4) additional years of systems administration experience may be substituted

Certifications:ย 
ย 
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level I or higher (e.g., Security+ CE) is required

Clearance Requirement:
ย 
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
