Job Description

IAT Insurance Group has an opening for a System Administrator Internship within our Information Technology Business Unit in our Newark, New Jersey location for the summer of 2027.

The primary responsibilities for this position include installing, configuring, and monitoring hardware, software, and cloud environments, to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Also includes effectively enforcing authentication, authorization, and accounting. The opportunity may also require you to assist with the evaluation, selection, design, and delivery of hardware and software infrastructure as well as cloud solutions. Additionally, this role involves leveraging and configuring automation tools and processes to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and scalability across systems and environments.

The internship is scheduled to begin on May 24th, 2027 and conclude on July 30th, 2027. Please note, IAT works on a hybrid schedule, working from the office Monday through Wednesday with the option of working remotely Thursday and Friday.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring enterprise systems, applications, and network services.
  • Assisting with server, storage, cloud, and collaboration platform administration.
  • Reviewing alerts, logs, and monitoring dashboards to identify potential issues.
  • Participating in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis activities.
  • Assisting with documentation and maintenance of Disaster Recovery (DR) plans.
  • Supporting DR testing exercises and recovery preparedness initiatives.
  • Helping maintain recovery documentation, inventories, and dependency mappings.
  • Participating in resilience and risk-reduction projects.
  • Supporting SharePoint Online libraries and collaboration platforms.
  • Assisting with data validation, document management, and governance activities.
  • Learning how enterprise file, communication, and productivity platforms are administered.
  • Building or enhancing workflows using Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Assisting with Office Scripts, PowerShell, and automation projects.
  • Identifying opportunities to eliminate manual processes through automation.
  • Creating documentation and process diagrams for operational procedures.
  • Assisting with infrastructure monitoring platforms and alert management.
  • Creating dashboards, reports, and operational metrics.
  • Supporting data collection and reporting efforts for IT leadership.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Must Have:

  • Must be able to work out of our Newark, New Jersey office without housing assistance or relocation assistance from IAT Insurance Group.
  • Must be able to complete the entirety of the 10-week internship program (May 24th, 2027 to July 30th, 2027)
  • Must be a rising undergraduate Sophomore, or Junior, or Senior
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Related technical field
  • Basic understanding of: Windows operating systems, Networking concepts, Cloud technologies, Information security principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.

Preferred to Have:

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Power Automate, PowerShell, Azure, SQL, Python, Monitoring tools, IT documentation or process mapping
  • No prior professional experience is required. A willingness to learn and a passion for technology are more important than specific technical expertise.

Compensation:

Please note, that the hourly pay rate associated with this posting is $17 - $24. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base hourly pay for this position. Actual hourly rates will vary based on factors such as a candidate's class standing, major, and geographical location. The total compensation will include base pay, 401(K) match, and more.
