Job description

Department: Telecommunications

Shift/schedule: Part Time (24 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Lead Switchboard Operator and Telecommunications Manager. The Switchboard Operator's primary job function is to operate a switchboard console, directing calls to and from the appropriate staff and/or departments. The Switchboard Operators also handle both inside and outside codes by notifying the appropriate staff using tools such as overhead paging and the mass notification application and the Switchboard Operators provide Answering Services for SOMC’s Physician based practices and various other departments.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Licensure:

  • None

Experience:

  • Experience working with the public preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Operates Switchboard Console and directs calls to the appropriate departments.
  2. Performs dispatching of routine and stat requests to ensure that incidents of incomplete or incorrect information do not occur.
  3. Monitors all alarm systems and initiates codes as instructed.
  4. Provides general hospital information to the public as requested.
  5. Performs Answering Services duties for various departments and offices as instructed.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
