For generations, our trusted brands have helped consumers care for themselves and their loved ones. We are one of the largest independent providers of over-the-counter products in North America, and we are constantly improving and creating products that match the ever-changing lifestyles and needs of people and families everywhere.

You will transform consumer insights and brand strategies into differentiated, intuitive, and manufacturable products that improve consumers’ everyday health and wellness. In this highly collaborative role, you will lead industrial design and front-end innovation from early concept development through design refinement and transfer to engineering and manufacturing partners. You will partner with Marketing, Consumer Insights, Regulatory, Quality, Legal, Supply Chain, and global suppliers to advance Class I and Class II OTC medical devices from idea to market. This is an opportunity for a hands-on design leader to influence product strategy, build a strong innovation pipeline, strengthen external development partnerships, and develop a growing technical team within a portfolio of trusted consumer healthcare brands.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES/ACTIVTIES:

  • Partner with Marketing, Consumer Insights, Regulatory, Legal, Quality, and Supply Chain to drive user-centered design and consumer-focused product development by translating consumer needs, business objectives, and technical requirements into successful product designs.
  • Define product design requirements, user experience goals, product architecture, and design specifications for new and existing device-related products.
  • Lead front-end innovation activities, including competitive benchmarking, concept development prototyping, design evaluation, and portfolio pipeline development.
  • Directly manage and develop the Senior Biomedical Engineer, including goal setting, workload prioritization, performance management, coaching, and alignment of technical activities with portfolio objectives and innovation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Biomedical Engineer to ensure appropriate integration of human factors, product performance, verification, validation, and claims substantiation activities.
  • Collaborate with CDMOs and third-party engineering service providers on design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-assembly (DFA), design refinement, and design transfer activities to support product scalability, quality, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and manufacturability
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, materials, consumer trends, and competitive products to identify innovation opportunities and strategic growth platforms.
  • Support intellectual property strategy through invention development, patent review, and collaboration with Legal and outside counsel on freedom-to-operate activities.
  • Create and maintain industrial design outputs and supporting design control documentation in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System, ISO 13485, and applicable regulatory requirements, including user needs, design inputs, product specifications, drawings, prototypes, design reviews, risk management inputs, verification and validation support, design transfer, and design changes.
  • Communicate project progress, innovation strategies, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, and hands-on experience developing prototypes using 3D printing and other rapid-prototyping methods.
  • Demonstrated experience translating consumer insights, market opportunities, and business objectives into differentiated product concepts and innovation pipelines, with strong expertise in user-centered design, ergonomics, human factors, product architecture, and design-for manufacturing principles.
  • Prior direct people-management experience, including responsibility for performance management, employee development, goal setting, and workload prioritization for technical or design professionals.
  • Experience developing Class I and/or Class II medical devices, consumer healthcare products, or other regulated products is preferred.
