During a typical shift as a Sushi Model, you will be expected to maintain a professional appearance and remain still for extended periods while sushi is artfully displayed on you as part of a culinary presentation. Teamwork is important, as you’ll closely coordinate with chefs, event organizers, and serving staff to ensure a smooth and hygienic setup and service. Shifts are often scheduled during special events or private dining experiences, and you may work in upscale restaurants, hotels, or catering venues. Attention to personal hygiene and client interaction protocols is important for both guest satisfaction and compliance with health regulations. This unique role can offer networking opportunities in the hospitality and entertainment industries, potentially opening doors to other modeling or event roles.
A Sushi Model, also known as Nyotaimori, is a person who serves as a human platter for sushi presentation at events or upscale dining experiences. This role requires the model to remain still for extended periods while sushi is carefully arranged on their body, typically adhering to strict hygiene and decorum standards. It is often considered a form of performance art and is usually done in exclusive or themed settings.
To thrive as a Sushi Model, professionalism, personal grooming, and poise are essential, with previous experience in modeling or hospitality often preferred. Training may be provided to ensure understanding of hygiene standards, display arrangements, and event protocols, but specialized certifications are not typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to remain still and composed for extended periods are important soft skills for this role. These qualities ensure a respectful and polished presentation, which is crucial for maintaining the integrity and hospitality of high-end dining experiences.

SUKA SUSHI is a relatively new restaurant based on a novel and unique concept - sushi in a container that makes eating on the go convenient. We opened our first location in November and quickly gained world-wide renown & buzz. We are now opening our second location in Manhattan and are looking to expand our team with enthusiastic and skilled individuals. We are invested in building a team that can grow alongside us. Position Summary:
We are seeking motivated Sushi Chefs, Sushi Helpers, Kitchen Helpers, Dishwashers, & Cashiers to join our kitchen team. You will assist in daily ingredient prep, sushi roll production, packing sushi into our containers, cleaning the space organized and clean, and upholding the quality of sushi and cleanliness of our product/kitchen. Our business model is designed to be a grab-&-go without sacrificing quality. This means our team need to be prepared to create high volume amount of rolls daily in order to keep up with customer demand.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and season sushi rice to Suka Sushi standards
- Cut fish and prep other ingredients efficiently for daily service
- Roll, cut,and assemble sushi with consistency and precision
- Maintain sufficient prep levels for both lunch and dinner service
- Follow standardized recipes, portion sizes, and food safety protocols
- Track ingredients and supplies to prevent inventory shortages
- Ensure freshness, presentation, and quality across all menu items
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of prep areas and equipment
- Communicate effectively with the team, managers, and FOH throughout service
- Work with speed, accuracy, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
Requirements:
- Food Protection Certificate (preferred)
- Prior experience in sushi preparation strongly preferred (but willing to train motivated candidates)

Full-time is preferred but part-time is also available
