The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $101,000 and $133,000 for this position. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location & Schedule
This role is primarily on-site at the Wellington Webb Municipal Building (201 W. Colfax), Monday through Friday, generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The position may require travel to other locations to address security matters, meet stakeholders, and attend meetings. A hybrid or flexible schedule may be considered after successfully completing the sixmonth probationary period.
Who We Are & What You'll Do
The Department of General Services provides efficient, reliable, and sustainable support to every corner of city government. We help the city run smoothly by buying the things the city needs, contracting for services, taking care of over 140 city-owned and managed buildings and providing city-wide security services, among other important services and responsibilities. The Department has a budget of $70M and is comprised of approximately 160 staff in three primary divisions: Facilities, Security and Surplus, Business Services, and Sourcing and Strategy.
As the Chief Security Officer/Manager, Denver Security Office, you will provide enterprise-level leadership, management, coordination, and oversight of internal and contracted security operations supporting city facilities, employees, visitors, assets and critical operations.
Specifically, as the Chief Security Officer/Manager, Denver Security Office you will:
Provide forward thinking and innovative leadership: As a strategic leader within the Facility, Security and Surplus Division of General Services, you will serve as a senior security subject-matter expert and will collaborate closely with General Services leadership, Facility Maintenance, Risk Management, the Denver Police, Fire, and Sheriff Departments, City security partners and stakeholders, and contracted security vendors to provide high-level customer service and innovative security solutions.
Translate strategy into action: You will have the ability to critically assess challenges, including those that occur on short or emergency notice and require immediate action, remaining flexible and developing effective, collaborative solutions. You must be comfortable working at both strategic/management and operational levels, willing to engage in day-to-day security operations as needed.
Lead through change, be flexible, seek continuous improvement: You have a demonstrated track record of success in organizational change management, continuous improvement and data-informed decision making. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and adaptable to evolving organizational, departmental or city-wide needs.

Our ideal candidate has the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
Extensive knowledge of modern physical-security principles, best practices, and technologies.
Knowledge of security risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident management, emergency preparedness, and facility-security operations.
Knowledge of security-service contracting, vendor and budget management, contract performance measurement, and quality assurance; prior experience managing large and complex contracts a plus.
Solutions-oriented with the ability to coordinate and collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries where authority and responsibility are distributed among multiple departments.
Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex security matters clearly and concisely to non-security professionals, write operational policies and procedures and de-escalate tense situations with skill.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; experience with developing performance metrics, operational goals and managing a multi-million-dollar security budget.
Commitment to ethical conduct, accountability, professionalism, equity, accessibility, and respectful public service.
Experience managing, leading and developing staff to grow as the next generation of leaders.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public or Business Administration, Risk Management, Facility Management or a related field.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management and supervision of professional individual contributors.
Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
