Job description

Equipment & Fleet Maintenance Manager

BC Eco Industrial Services | A Sutherland Group Company

Kootenay Region, British Columbia

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance strategy, fleet reliability, and equipment performance of our growing operation in Salmo, BC.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who understands that maintenance is more than repairing equipment. It's about maximizing uptime, improving reliability, developing people, and supporting operational success.

Working closely with Operations, Equipment Planning, Procurement, and Safety teams, you'll play a key role in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, cost-effective, and ready to perform.

This is an on-site position based in the West Kootenays, BC (Salmo). The successful candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to the West Kootenays before starting employment.

Why the Kootenays?

The Kootenays offer a rare combination of career opportunity and exceptional quality of life. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, and endless outdoor recreation, the region is ideal for those who enjoy skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, golfing, or simply spending time outdoors.

From the vibrant communities of Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail to the small-town charm of Salmo, Fruitvale, and Christina Lake, you'll find welcoming communities, shorter commutes, excellent schools, and a lifestyle that prioritizes family.

Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance Leadership

Lead the maintenance function across multiple business units and operating locations, ensuring maintenance priorities support operational needs. Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to maintenance personnel while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Preventative Maintenance & Repair Management

Oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs that maximize fleet availability and minimize unplanned downtime. Ensure repairs are prioritized effectively, completed efficiently, and aligned with operational requirements, safety standards, and asset criticality.

Fleet Reliability & Asset Performance

Drive initiatives that improve equipment reliability, increase uptime, and optimize asset lifecycle performance. Leverage maintenance data, equipment trends, and operational insights to support informed decisions regarding rebuilds, replacements, standardization, and long-term capital planning.

Maintenance Planning & Operational Coordination

Partner closely with Operations, Dispatch, and Planning teams to ensure maintenance activities are coordinated effectively and equipment availability aligns with business demands. Maintain visibility of fleet status and proactively respond to changing operational priorities.

Maintenance Systems & Continuous Improvement

Develop and strengthen maintenance systems, workflows, KPIs, and reporting tools that support data-driven decision making. Continuously identify opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency, reduce costs, enhance reliability, and standardize best practices across the organization.

Vendor & Contractor Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with dealerships, suppliers, repair facilities, and contractors to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality service delivery. Hold external service providers accountable for safety, responsiveness, workmanship, and overall performance.

Compliance, Financial Stewardship & Safety Leadership

Ensure all maintenance activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements, company policies, and safety standards. Manage maintenance-related expenditures responsibly, support cost-control initiatives, and champion a proactive safety culture that protects employees, equipment, and the communities we serve.
