About the Role

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a Mine Manager to join our team in Prince Rupert, BC.

Reporting to the General Manager – Aggregates, the Mine Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all Ridley Quarry. This role oversees daily production, leads mine planning and resource management, ensures adherence to regulatory and environmental requirements, and provides strong leadership to employees and contractors. The Mine Manager is accountable for achieving production targets, optimizing operational performance, and supporting the long‑term sustainability of the company’s aggregate resources.

Based out of Ridley Quarry, Prince Rupert, the Mines Manager oversee and manage the Ridley Quarry operations to ensure the safe, sustainable, and efficient extraction of aggregate materials.This role provides leadership across operational execution, resource planning, budgeting, safety management, and regulatory compliance. The Mine Manager ensures that mining activities align with company objectives, meet production demands, and support long term strategic growth. The position plays a critical leadership role in coordinating cross functional teams, maintaining workforce capability, and fostering a strong culture of safety and accountability.

  • Lead daily mine operations (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing) to meet production, safety, and quality targets.
  • Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term mine plans, ensuring efficient resource utilization and alignment with business needs.
  • Ensure full compliance with all mining, environmental, and occupational health & safety regulations, including permitting and reporting.
  • Manage financial performance through budgeting, forecasting, and cost‑control initiatives.
  • Provide strong leadership, including coaching, performance development, and fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Drive continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement, collaborating with internal teams, contractors, regulatory bodies, and community partners.
Main Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
•    Oversee day to day mine operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and crushing activities.
•    Ensure production targets are met or exceeded while maintaining safety and quality standards.
•    Optimize equipment utilization, workforce deployment, and mine sequencing for operational efficiency.
•    Lead troubleshooting and problem solving for operational constraints and equipment issues.

Budgeting & Financial Forecasting
•    Prepare annual operating and capital budgets for the mine.
•    Develop accurate financial forecasts based on production plans, market demand, material costs, and operating trends.
•    Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.
•    Manage cost control programs, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial targets.

Production Planning & Mine Planning
•    Develop short term and long term mine plans in collaboration with engineering and surveying teams.
•    Establish production schedules aligned with sales forecasts and business needs.
•    Conduct resource modeling and reserve planning to ensure long term sustainability of the mine.
•    Ensure efficient stockpile management and material quality control.

Safety, Compliance & Environmental Stewardship
•    Enforce compliance with all applicable mining, health and safety, and environmental regulations.
•    Lead safety initiatives and foster a strong safety culture among all employees and contractors.
•    Ensure environmental monitoring, reporting, and mitigation plans are implemented effectively.
•    Maintain all operational permits and ensure the mine operates within regulatory guidelines.

People Leadership
•    Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team of supervisors, equipment operators, and technicians.
•    Conduct performance evaluations and support continuous skill development.
•    Demonstrate strong communication, decision making, and conflict resolution skills.
•    Coordinate training programs to enhance operational capability and safety awareness.

Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
•    Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
•    Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, HR, and senior leadership to support organizational goals.
•    Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and community partners.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of mining experience.
  • Strong understanding of mine planning software is an asset.
  • Strong skills in interpreting plans and maps required.
  • Demonstrated competency in managing complex operations in a mining or aggregate environment.
  • Proven leadership, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of local mining regulations and environmental legislation.
  • Mine Engineering education not required but considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in using geological and land management software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid License and clean drivers abstract.
  • PMP Certification an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Site-based position with rotational or residential schedule (as applicable).
  • Exposure to outdoor and industrial environments.
  • Extended hours may be required to meet operational targets.
  • Ability to travel to various business units and corporate offices as required.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment if required.
  • Manual dexterity required to use computer and peripherals.
