Job description

PRINCIPALS/DIRECTORS WILL POST IN OFFICE AREAS UPON RECEIPT.

The Wirt County Board of Education announces the following vacancy for the 2026-2027 school year:     

DATE:                        August 12, 2026

POSITION:                 Assistant Principal, Wirt County Middle School 

CONTRACT:             220-day contract, flexible schedule, created by principal

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Minimum of a Master's Degree, WV Professional Administrative Certificate 5-12
  2. Minimum of three years successful teaching experience
  3. Accomplished evaluations and/or recommendations from professional associates, employers, and/or supervisors, preferred
  4. High academic achievement in college education program
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with students, school personnel, and parents
  6. Demonstrates knowledge or has experience in the middle school curriculum, school finance, and West Virginia School Law
  7. Demonstrates knowledge or has experience in the duties and responsibilities of a middle school assistant principal
  8. Educational philosophy compatible with the Wirt County Board of Education philosophy
  9. Certification to supervise and evaluate personnel as per 126-142-5 of WV Policy 5310
  10. Completion of the West Virginia Evaluation Leadership Institute
  11. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others and as a member
  12. of an educational team
  13. Demonstrated ability to use technology
  14. Demonstrated ability to implement innovative programs related to the appropriate
  15. programmatic level
  16. Demonstrates self-control

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides purpose and direction for schools/county
  2. Demonstrates cognitive skills to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to reach goals
  3. Manages consensus and group behaviors
  4. Organizes and delegates to accomplish goals
  5. Communicates effectively
  6. Provides instructional leadership, creates a climate conducive to learning schoolwide
  7. Implements a school improvement process
  8. Establishes good public and employee relationships
  9. Evaluates personnel as designated by the principal
  10. Maintains professional work habits
  11. Maintains and improves professional skills
  12. Performs other jobs/related duties as assigned by the principal
  13. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school
  14. Act as principal in the absence of the school principal

SUPERVISOR:  Principal and/or Superintendent

SALARY:  Wirt County Salary Scale for teachers based on degree and years' experience; WV assistant principal salary increment
