Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Working Pattern: Hybrid/Onsite in office 3 days/week
Working location: Indianapolis, IN
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for developing and designing electronic enclosures for use with aero gas turbine engines. In this role, the Design Engineer ensures the enclosures definition meets the project requirements from concept through qualification testing. You will be responsible for supporting local Rolls-Royce Corporation and global engine programs. You may be involved at any stage of a project including the initial brief for a concept, the design and development stage, testing of prototypes and the final manufacture and implementation of a new product or system. You will usually work in project teams with colleagues in other branches of engineering.

What you will be doing:
Here you'll have the opportunity to work on the following:
  • Collaborate with electronics engineering to develop enclosures that jointly meet electronic and mechanical requirements and guidelines
  • Create detailed drawings and 3D model-based definitions to support project/manufacturing in order to procure conforming hardware
  • Orchestrate Technical/Design Reviews and communicate solutions with the project/customer. This includes developing technical presentations and associated technical reports in the delivery of solutions
  • Perform component trade studies for new and existing hardware, create and review functional and physical interfaces, and generate analysis requirements for enclosure.
  • Assure compliance with applicable product certification requirements (i.e. RTCA/DO-160, MIL-STD-810)
  • Perform mechanical analysis on enclosures to ensure enclosure design meets operating environments, such as vibration and thermal analyses.

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering with 2+ years of design experience OR
  • Masters degree in Engineering OR
  • JD/PhD Engineering
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be a US Citizen

Preferred:
  • 5+ years' experience with electronic enclosures design and manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of aero gas turbine control systems
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Experience using computer aided design tools such as Siemens NX and ANSYS
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA), Vibration Analysis, and Thermal Analysis
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with design processes and component testing
  • Experience with analyzing and translating high level requirements into a validated design for mechanical designs
