Job description

Battery Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)
Department: Avionics
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Redondo Beach
Compensation: $32.00 / hour
Description
As a Battery Engineering Intern, you will support the development of lithium-ion battery packs for use in Impulse's current and next generation space vehicles. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience working with flight electromechanical devices.
This role offers exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and the full spacecraft product development life cycle - from design to launch.
Responsibilities
  • Support electrical or structural finite element analysis of electromechanical hardware
  • Develop battery test hardware
  • Support qualification testing and pcb bring-up
  • Support battery assembly
  • Develop new CAD models
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and test teams

Minimum Qualifications
  • Recent completion or currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on project experience (ie Formula SAE, Design/Build/Fly, Senior Design)
  • CAD experience (MCAD or ECAD)
  • Hands-on experience with electronics or electrical test equipment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with building battery packs or electromechanical devices
  • Experience with Siemens NX
  • Experience with ANSYS or Simcenter
  • Experience with Altium Designer

Additional Information:
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
