Job description

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who'll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

Waymo interns partner with leaders in the industry on projects that create impact to the company. We believe learning is a two-way street: applying your knowledge while providing you with opportunities to expand your skill-set. Interns are an important part of our culture and our recruiting pipeline. Join us at Waymo for a fun and rewarding internship!

You will:

  • Design, implement, and test software infrastructure, test runners, and tooling (in C++ and Python) to scale test execution on HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) benches and simulation platforms.
  • Collaborate with Systems and Test Engineers to understand requirements, workflows, and pain points in test automation, triage, and release qualification.
  • Build automated pipelines and data workflows to streamline failure triaging, regression testing, and qualification reporting.
  • Author technical design documents and user guides, and lead technical demos or workshops to onboard engineers to newly developed automation capabilities.

You have:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in software development using C++ย
  • Solid foundation in core computer science concepts (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design).
  • Familiarity with software testing fundamentals and methodologies (unit testing, integration testing, regression testing).

We prefer:

  • Proficiency in software development using Python
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test platforms, embedded systems, or hardware/software integration.
  • Experience developing test automation frameworks, developer tooling, or CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Protocol Buffers (protobuf), declarative configuration frameworks, or RPC systems.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Note: This will be a hybrid onsite internship position. We will accept resumes on a rolling basis until the role is filled. To be in consideration for multiple roles, you will need to apply to each one individually - please apply to the top 3 roles you are interested in.
