Diamondback Energy is an independent oil and natural gas company headquartered in Midland, Texas. We are focused on the acquisition, development, exploration, and exploitation of unconventional, onshore oil and natural gas reserves in the Permian Basin in West Texas.
The Engineering Intern will be assigned to a specific department (facilities, production, drilling, completions, reservoir engineering, operations) and own an assigned summer project supporting that business function.


Duration: Approximately 12 weeks (May - August 2027)

Job Responsibilities:

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Work on an assigned, individual engineering project throughout the summer, culminating in a presentation of the completed project to Diamondback's upper management
  • Develop engineering skills under the supervision and guidance of an assigned, experienced mentor
  • Work directly with other engineers and other disciplines to experience what working in an Oil & Gas Exploration and Production company is like
  • Analyze well production data, decline curves, and pressure trends to support production forecasting and identify underperforming wells
  • Support drilling and completions engineering work, including offset well reviews, cost tracking, and post-job performance analysis
  • Participate in on-site field visits to learn about field operations, including an active drilling rig and active completions spread
  • Participate in intern events and philanthropic endeavors that support the Midland-Odessa community

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in Petroleum, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline
  • Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to work in Midland, TX for the duration of the internship
  • Must be returning to school for the Fall 2027 semester

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher
  • Extracurricular achievements or prior work experience
