Job description

The Summer Server is responsible for providing excellent customer service to our members and guests. The Summer Server is a direct point of contact with the members, answering any questions regarding food and drink menu items, while providing consistent and constant attention, ensuring that all members and guests are given priority. The performance of a Summer Server reflects directly on the overall memberโ€™s food and/or drink experience. The Summer Server must be friendly, outgoing and communicate well. Organization is key, and the Summer Server must be prepared to take orders in a high paced and physically challenging environment.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Works all shifts in the outdoor weather around the pool areas for shifts up to 8 hours
  • High customer service and attention to each member making sure to acknowledge each member within 30 seconds of reaching the serverโ€™s designated area, being available to take initial orders within 2 minutes, and continuously following up with the member throughout their visit
  • Anticipates any requests from members before they are made; with a smile
  • Drives sales by memorizing all food and drink menus for ingredients and options available
  • Learns member names and food and drink preferences whenever possible
  • Works diligently and communicates efficiently with other Food + Drink staff to help coordinate member orders for food from the kitchen
  • Follows all cash handling policies as outlined by Woodside
  • Utilizes the POS system for all purchases through MICROS
  • Secures upfront authorization of payment from members of all sales whether by membership account, credit card or cash
  • Keeps track of number of drinks served per customer โ€“ ensures that they do not exceed the allotted number of drinks
  • Evaluates members to determine if they have reached their limit and if they are capable of driving
  • May at times be asked to support special events within Club
  • Maintains clean, organized and visually appealing areas in and around all food + drink outlets
  • Moves throughout the shift with purpose
  • Attends to all members and/or guests
  • Complies with Clubโ€™s employee handbook manual, departmental policies and procedures and with all applicable federal and state employment laws
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Standards

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Education/Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Mandatory in-house server training
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of customer service experience is required
  • Prior experience as a server/bartender
  • Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits and of general drink recipes strongly preferred
  • Ability to process basic math skills for change and operate a POS system is required โ€“ must be able to complete and turn in money from shift correctly and clearly communicate any variances
  • Excellent command of the English language โ€“ written and verbal
  • MUST be physically fit for demanding position

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required โ€“ must be reliable
  • Ability to move or lift as much as 20 pounds
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in written form
  • Interest in wellness and/or fitness is a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Operates in and around pool area in extreme weather conditions walking and standing
  • Required to work both in and outside in high heat summer temperatures
  • Working in around lots of people where noise levels can be excessive
  • Flexible and changing working hours โ€“ must be available per business needs
  • Schedule will vary based on weather and the needs of the business, particularly for special events, promotions, etc.
