Position Overview

The Lead Student Event and Conference Manager at The Ohio State University is a high-responsibility non-student role supporting the operations of summer conferences, intern housing, and long-term guest accommodations. This includes assisting with oversight of summer conference and intern housing. This posting will predominantly focus on the development of comprehensive manuals and documentation for suboordinate student manager positions.

The Lead Student Manager is a non OSU-student employee who reports directly to full-time professional staff within the Student Life Events and Conferences (SLEC) office. The role requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, as well as a working knowledge of campus facilities across the North District, Residence Halls, Recreational Sports, and the Ohio Union. The Lead Manager will help coordinate with campus partners including Student Life Facilities and Student Life Dining Services. This role will primary be supporting the creating of documentation and manuals for suboordinate student manager positions (Student Assistant 1's and Student Assistant 2's).

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Assist in managing the full guest experience lifecycle, from initial inquiry to final billing and invoicing.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Student Life Events and Conferences leadership team, student assistants, and other office staff.
  • Help lead planning and execution of Summer Conference and Intern Housing experiences.
  • Collaborate with campus partners including Student Life Facilities and Dining Services.
  • Support planning, logistics, and financial processes for summer guests.
  • Utilize office software (EMS, StarRez, Qualtrics, Outlook/Teams, DocuSign) to streamline operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Non-OSU Student.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of leadership experience,
  • Completion of at least one full season with Events and Conferences.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Familiarity with OSU employee conduct procedures.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
  • High attention to detail and proactive work ethic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Teams, and customer service platforms.
  • Availability to work 30-38 hours/week during summer and 3-15 hours/week during the academic year.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and weekdays as needed.

Time Allocation

  • 50% - Creation of comprehensive training materials for suboordinate managers (Student Assistant 1's and Student Assistant 2's)

  • 50% - Creation and updating of comprehensive training materials for Student Assistants
