Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.  Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining and caring for the parish’s outdoor property, including landscaped areas, parking lots, walkways, and sacred spaces such as prayer gardens, statues, and cemetery grounds (if applicable). This role helps ensure the church campus reflects the beauty, reverence, and hospitality central to the Catholic faith.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas (mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing)
  • Care for and respectfully maintain religious features such as statues, grottos, shrines, Stations of the Cross, and memorial areas
  • Assist with upkeep of parish cemetery grounds (if applicable), including mowing, trimming, and general appearance
  • Remove debris, leaves, and litter from all outdoor areas
  • Maintain sidewalks, entrances, and parking lots for safety and cleanliness
  • Perform seasonal duties:
    • Snow and ice removal in winter
    • Leaf cleanup in fall
    • Planting and mulching in spring/summer
  • Monitor irrigation systems and ensure proper watering of grounds
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment safely
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for outdoor liturgical events (e.g., processions for Easter, Palm Sunday, Corpus Christi)
  • Ensure outdoor areas are safe, accessible, and welcoming for parishioners and visitors
  • Report maintenance issues, hazards, or vandalism promptly
