Job description

Overview

Position: Horticultural Zone Summer AssistantLocation/Dept.: Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, Philadelphia PAAvailability: ImmediateSchedule: Part Time (up to 19 hours weekly) - varying hours based on scheduled events, evenings and weekends required Reporting Relationship: Horticultural Zone FarmerSalary: $16.00 Grade:74 Non Exempt

Responsibilities

The Horticultural Zone Summer Assistant will assist the Horticultural Zone Farmer with the ongoing upkeep of the Horticultural Zone garden.

Under the guidance of the Horticulture Zone Farmer: Water plants and weed garden beds. Stake up plants where needed. Work with compost pile and spread over garden beds, plant seedlings and harvest produce. Assist with the upkeep of the Center's horticultural grounds. Report unusual findings re: pests, plant or equipment damage. Assists staff in the overall plant health and soil nutrition strategies. Abide by Horticultural Zone policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age. Must have the ability to work outside in the summer. Must have a desire to work and learn about  horticulture and gardening. Must possess excellent program development skills. Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English. Must be able to handle difficult situations/confrontations in a professional manner

As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission Statements of The Salvation Army and the RJKCCC.
