Job description

Prestage Farms is family owned, industry leading, and dedicated to continuing our legacy of integrity and innovation in pork and turkey production.

Prestage Farms is seeking a veterinarian for our Iowa Division based in Ames, Iowa. This position will be responsible for providing veterinary service, support, and care for Prestage farms of Iowa wean to finish operations including but not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of biosecurity protocols

  • Development of plans to address health issues and concerns

  • Develop and implement vaccine strategies

  • Coordinate and participate in diagnostic sample collection and result summation

  • Maintain prescriptions and VFDs records and compliance

  • Assist with maintaining SHIP requirements

  • Maintain PQA+ advisor certification and perform trainings as necessary

  • Train caretakers on herd health issues, biosecurity, proper antibiotic and vaccine use

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from accredited school or a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student in their last semester; Emphasis on swine production

  • Licensed or ability to become licensed in all states where Prestage Farms operates (AL, MS, SC, NC, OK, TX, IA)

  • This position will also require monthly travel to Prestage Farms of Oklahoma (farrow to finish operation) to fulfill and maintain interstate swine movement requirements in addition to the above listed responsibilities
