Position Description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview and DutiesBSU offers more than 300 study abroad programs in over 60 countries around the globe. BSU Study Abroad seeks a Graduate Assistant (GA) for the 2026-2027 academic year to support student success and participation in these programs. The GA will assist the staff with program and academic advising, as well as student enrollment and outreach. The position is best suited for graduate students interested in developing their student advising and enrollment management skills.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the office's first point of contact: answering phone calls and assisting with student walk-ins, answering departmental email inbox, and scheduling appointments
  • Help prepare for campus-wide events: ordering flyers, tracking sign-ups and promotion via Student or Community Announcements, EngageBSU, etc.
  • Process new and existing study abroad applications via study abroad software platform
  • Management enrollment for faculty-led travel courses and submission of student applications
  • Participate in office advising through information sessions, tabling, drop-in hours, or advising appointments
  • Assist with classroom presentations, workshops, or office hours with campus partners as needed
  • Manage communication between study abroad and other departments on campus
  • Assist with other student outreach and marketing efforts

Outcomes
The GA will learn the work and management skills that come from working in a small, dynamic office. They will gain experience working with students in advising and information sessions; presenting in the office, classrooms and at campus events; and managing a diverse portfolio of programs.

  • Experience with study abroad and/or international travel
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as a member of a team and learn new skills
  • Experience with presenting to a group
  • Effective time management, sound judgment, and attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn to use enrollment management software
  • Experience with data collection
