What is the difference between Student vs Intern?

AspectStudentIntern
Required CredentialsEnrolled in an educational programTypically students or recent graduates
Work EnvironmentEducational settings, part-time or temporary rolesWorkplace, often in a company or organization
Employer & Industry UsageEducational institutions, some companiesBusinesses, organizations offering practical experience
Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding entry-level or learning rolesGaining practical experience or assessing career options

In summary, students are primarily enrolled in educational programs and may work part-time or in temporary roles, often within educational settings. Interns are usually recent graduates or students seeking practical experience in a workplace environment. While both roles involve learning, internships typically offer hands-on work experience in a professional setting, making them more directly related to career development.

What are some effective ways for students to manage their time and balance coursework with extracurricular activities?

Balancing coursework with extracurricular activities is a common challenge for students. Effective time management starts with prioritizing tasks, using planners or digital calendars to track deadlines, and setting aside specific blocks of time for both study and activities. It's also helpful to communicate with professors or activity leaders if conflicts arise and to regularly evaluate commitments to avoid overextending yourself. Developing these habits not only helps maintain academic performance but also builds valuable organizational skills for future careers.

What are students?

Students are individuals who are enrolled in schools, colleges, universities, or other educational programs with the primary purpose of learning and acquiring knowledge, skills, and qualifications. They participate in classes, complete assignments, and take exams to progress through their chosen curriculum. Students can be of any age and may study full-time or part-time, depending on their educational goals and personal circumstances.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a student, and why are they important?

To thrive as a student, you need strong study habits, time management skills, and foundational knowledge in your chosen field, typically supported by enrollment in an academic program. Familiarity with digital learning platforms, productivity tools, and research databases is also beneficial. Self-motivation, curiosity, and effective communication help students stand out by enabling active participation and collaboration. These skills are essential for academic success, personal growth, and preparation for future professional opportunities.

What Are Student Jobs?

"Student job" is the general term given to jobs that will fit with a full-time student’s schedule. Such jobs may be seasonal, coinciding with school vacations, or part-time. Other jobs, like restaurant work, are a good fit for students since the busiest time for a restaurant is often in the evening and on weekends. Having some work experience as a student, whether in your future professional field or not, makes strong evidence on your resume of your work ethic. Former employers can also serve as references for future jobs or write recommendation letters for college applications.

Job description

Applications must be submitted by 12:01 a.m., June 30, 2026.

Thank you for your interest in a career at Northcentral Technical College (NTC). NTC offers outstanding career opportunities to work in a stimulating and diverse environment with state-of-the art facilities. If you have a desire to help students while positively impacting the community, we'd love for you to join our team!

Work-study or student positions are specifically intended for students, so if you are not a student with 6 or more credits in a semester you are not eligible to apply for the positions. To be eligible for a work-study position, you must be a recipient of work-study through Financial Aid.

If you have questions regarding your financial aid and whether or not you are eligible for a work-study position, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 715.675.3331, ext. 5862 or via email: financialaid@ntc.edu.

Thank you!

Job Summary

Student Ambassadors professionally represent the college throughout the year both on and off-campus in a variety of NTC events hosted by K-12, Student Life, and other departments on any NTC campus. These student leaders provide accurate information and insight into NTC's services and resources to the community, prospective students, and their families. Additionally, they promote student engagement and the Timberwolf Experience to current and prospective students.
This is a paid position through work-study or student employment and allows students to grow in leadership, professional and soft skills.

Position reports to Coordinator, K12 Events & Communications. This position will be paid an hourly rate of $14.00.

Application Information

While there may not be an immediate need for a student employee in every area, Northcentral Technical College (NTC) accepts applications regardless, in order to create a pool for when there may be a need. Upon successful submission of your application, you will be considered for future part-time student employee opportunities and your application will be on file as a potential candidate who could possibly fill a position if or when the need arises.

NOTE:
It is in your best interest to apply for more than one position, in the event other candidates are already being considered for this position, you want to leave your options open for other positions. Student and Federal Work-Study employees may work up to 20 hours per week total.
You will need to re-apply at the beginning of each semester for work-study/student positions due to any school or work-study changes that may have occurred changing your status. Each semester, the applications for each position will be refreshed with new applications of those who re-apply to keep the applicant pool current for supervisors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
