What does a student services associate do?

A Student Services Associate supports students by providing resources, guidance, and assistance related to academic, administrative, and personal matters. They help students navigate registration, financial aid, counseling, and other campus services. Their role is to ensure students have access to the support they need to succeed in their academic journey and to foster a positive campus experience. These skills ensure smooth student services operations, enhance student satisfaction, and contribute to a positive campus environment.

  • Proactively engage students to identify and address academic and other barriers to persistence, certification readiness, and completion

Retention & Certification Support

  • Drive retention and certification outcomes through early intervention, milestone tracking, and consistent follow-up
  • Support accommodation requests, resource referrals, and appropriate escalation as needed

Data, Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document all student interactions and outcomes
  • Participate in cohort tracking, G&E chart confirmation, and required audits in addition to weekly and monthly reporting on student success metrics

Events, Programming & Collaboration

  • Support, participate in, and/or facilitate student success events and initiatives such as retention workshops, certification readiness activities, career fairs, and alumni events, collaborating with other departments as needed

Other Duties

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor, including required onboarding and ongoing training related to student success systems, performance metrics, and operational processes

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in student services, advising, career services, workforce development, recruiting, or a related support role
  • 1 year of related experience in a proprietary (for profit), post-secondary educational setting preferred

 Skills

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills with a student-centered approach
  • Comfortable working in a metrics-driven environment with shared accountability
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and willing to learn new systems
  • A positive, team-oriented approach and willingness to work outside regular business hours and travel locally or overnight as needed
