Job Summary/Basic Function
Students employed for this position will support a grant-funded community engagement project funded by Community-Engaged Alliance. The project has two primary goals. The first is to develop recommendations for programs that could be implemented in the Wabash Valley to address intergenerational poverty. The second is to explore the potential of using Ryves Hall in Terre Haute as a special needs emergency shelter in the event of a major emergency.

Job Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Job ResponsibilitiesStudents will be working with Indiana State University faculty as well as representatives of Catholic Charities and other local nonprofit organizations. Specific job responsibilities may include:
  • Participation in planning meetings, including taking notes as needed.
  • Participating in the collection of statistical data from various sources to gain a better understanding of the dimensions of poverty and emergency preparedness in the area
  • Participating in interviews and focus groups to collect qualitative data on issues related to poverty and emergency management affecting people in the Wabash Valley
  • Assisting with the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Visiting Ryves Hall and other local facilities to consider their feasible for use as emergency shelters or to learn about ongoing anti-poverty programs
  • Provide support for event planning
  • Collecting, summarizing, and synthesizing relevant peer-reviewed academic literature on poverty and emergency preparedness
  • Assist with drafting of reports and presentations
  • Students may participate in presentations if they wish
