Job description

Primary Purpose:

To assist in implementing the DRIVE program at the elementary school level by supporting students receiving special education services in developing functional life skills, pre-vocational skills, and independence. This role provides instructional, behavioral, and physical assistance to students with disabilities in both classroom and community-based settings under the supervision of certified staff.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • CPI certification (preferred or must be obtained upon hire)
  • Valid Texas driver's license 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to assist in instructional and life skills activities
  • Patience and compassion for students with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to follow directions, model behavior, and use positive reinforcement techniques
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist students with functional academic tasks, social skills, and life skills activities
  • Support students in pre-vocational settings such as campus-based work tasks or simulated job stations
  • Accompany and assist students during community-based instruction or campus outings
  • Provide support with mobility, hygiene, and feeding needs if necessary
  • Reinforce routines and behavior plans as outlined by the special education teacher or case manager
  • Monitor student engagement and collect data for IEP progress reporting
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, service providers, and parents (as appropriate)

Working Conditions:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in varied settings (cafeteria, classrooms, job stations, community areas)
  • May involve lifting, toileting, and other physical support
  • Exposure to behaviorally challenging situations requiring de-escalation or redirection

*Minimum Salary $15.23 hourly
*Salary is commensurate with experience
*Works 187 Day Calendar
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
