POSITION: Student Engagement Specialist
REPORTS TO: Principal
EMPLOYER: Mattawan Consolidated School
SUMMARY:
The Student Engagement Specialist works with students to mitigate disruptive and negative behaviors and replace them with positive behaviors and actions. Specialists are under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and work closely with administration and social workers to help support behavior plan implementation. This is a grant-funded position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required
  • Additional endorsements in behavioral science preferred
  • Prior job-related experiences, paid or voluntary, with school-age children;
  • Prior job-related experiences paid or voluntary with office management;

31a FUNDED RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide behavioral responses to students in need
  • Collaborate with building-level teams; teachers, social workers, administrators
  • Ability to be flexible with daily schedule as student needs arise
  • Implement positive behavior support for all students in all school settings
  • Communicate regarding crisis-related situations in an empathetic, student-centered manner
  • Maintain professionalism and ethical practice when interacting with students, staff, and parents
  • Follow compliance standards related to school discipline and student confidentiality
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of student behavior plans
  • Develop rapport and trust with students
  • Participate in in-service education, conferences, or formal classes related to assignments;
  • Show initiative when working with children or using materials;
  • Maintain cooperative, effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
  • Willingness to learn, acquire, and apply new skills and knowledge
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills, adaptability and problem-solving
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records;
  • Transport students to and from school (occasionally) with a valid driver's license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, must be able to see and hear the entire classroom, and moving light furniture may be required.
SAFETY AND HEALTH:
Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS HANDLED:
Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
