Job Title: Student Counselor
Status: Exempt Part-time (50%) Academic year schedule
Reports To: Director of Student Counseling
Overview: Provides a full-range of counseling services to Augustana students including individual and group counseling, psycho-educational programs and faculty and staff consultation.
Job Duties:
1. Meet with individual students to provide counseling for a wide variety of needs during assigned office hours. Work with students to resolve issues, involving others on campus as needed, and provide crisis counseling interventions to students.
2. Provide counseling interventions based on a theoretical orientation, using evidence-based practices.
3. Plan, conduct, and evaluate psycho-educational group presentations as needed and requested. Revise offerings to fit the needs of the campus community.
4. Plan, conduct, and evaluate group counseling sessions.
5. Document student meetings within the established protocols of the office.
6. As appropriate and requested, consult with members of the faculty and other campus community members regarding students concerns.
7. Work collaboratively with other members of the Augustana counseling staff to integrate efforts and create program success. Assist other staff members with activities as need to reach the overall goals of the Augustana counseling department.
8. Attend recruiting events or other college events to promote the services of the counseling office or provide information around mental health treatment.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Skills amp; Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience in individual or group treatment with a college-aged population
• Experience in programming and consultation with a varied client base similar to our campus constituency
• Experience providing crisis counseling interventions and assessing and screening for risk of suicide or harm to others
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of computer software applications
• The ability to relate to a diverse group of students and campus community members with sensitivity and competency
• Spanish fluency highly preferred.
Education amp; Licensure:
• Graduate degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.
• Must hold a LPC or LSW license in the State of Illinois; it is preferred that applicants hold a LCPC or LCSW in the State of Illinois.
Additional Information:
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 15 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time.
Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check.
